My wife and I took our first cruise trip together to Greece. This was Kate's first trip outside Canada. I have travelled for decades. The cruise ship was not was what published, but all activities in Greece were amazing. The stay at the Silve Maris (any Maris hotel also) went far beyond our expectations. We met several locals and staff and many fellow travellers of all ages from Canada, Germany and the US. The resort is nestled on the beach in Hersonissos, a small beach town just east of the capitol Heraklion. Food and service was catered to Germans, but wonderful none the less, and ethnic Crete night was so beautiful and cultural that we both were forever changed. Other travellers told us of other Maris resorts that had different amenities and beaches (Silvas beach is smaller than say Candia Maris or Creta Maris). Although our trip was disappointing from the boat perspective, we would DEFINATELY do a longer trip just for Crete and Rhodes/Rodos especially in a Silva AI Resort. We are young at heart (31-40), but found that any age could love this place. Water sports are less than a kilometre away at a small price. Food, spirits and snacks are available AI all day. The views and trips are spectacular. The only way to beat this luxury and beauty would cost a lot more; there are all levels of accommodation on Crete. We would recommend to anyone to stay at any Maris hotel/resort, just do some research to find the one for you: They range from sporty to luxurious spa.
