Great hotel, great food, great staff!

from kevnickie
We booked this holiday as a last minute deal 3 days before travelling. We were a little apprehensive as some reviews were not so good. When we arrived at the hotel we were pleasantly suprised. The hotel reception was spotlessly clean ( as all areas in hotel). The guy on reception was very polite and efficient. We were shown to our rooms by Andrew. We had two rooms as 5 people - myself, husband and 3 children -16,11,10. The rooms were basic but again spotlessly clean and were quite spacious. We only used room to sleep and shower so served our needs.

The restuarant was large and airy. The food was fantastic. Always so much choice. Breakfast had choices of bacon., sausage, eggs etc, fresh fruits and cereals, pancakes, pastries, cakes, cold meat, cheese. Lunch & dinner always had 4 meats, fish, 2 or 3 vegetarian options, salads, rice pasta, potatoes, veg. soup., endless puddings and ice cream We have stayed in alot of all inclsive hotels and this was the best food we have had. Always very tasty. Also went to bbq and again food was lovely. All inclusive dinks were of a good standard and also ice creams all day long.

The animation team were great. During the day they organised lots of sports activities - beach volleyball, water polo, french boules, darts, ping pong and other games. We enjoyed taking part as the team made them so much fun. The evening entertainment was also great. The shows were very funny - Who is!!!! also had music quiz, dancing, games etc. Jack, Angela & GiGi work very hard but were always happy and smiling. They always stopped and talked.

The staff are all friendly and helpful. George the manager came round daily to talk to guests. If you ask for anything it is done straight away. We asked for the FA cup final to be shown. George showed this in the lobby bar. The bar normally opens at 6pm but we asked if he could open this at 5pm on this day as football was on and that the bar was open at 5. Just little things but this goes a long way to make a good holiday.

Normally when on holiday we like to venture out of the hotel on some trips but this time we did not feel the need as there enough going on at hotel. We asked our 10 & 11 if they wanted to go out on quad bikes but again they did not want to leave the hotel.

All in all this has been one of the best holidays we have ever had. We could not fault the hotel & Staff. Kids did not want to leave and want to know when we are going back. I am sure we will return soon.

Great hotel, super duper place!!!

from marcita26
Me and my hubby stayed at zorbas for 14 days and what a lovely people and place!!! Very pleasant hotel and delicious food. We just got upset with internet that wasn't working, but at the end of the day we were in a holiday for god sakes!! hahaha But just advice for people who going to Zorbas beacuse to the free wi- fi...not work properly, and they gonna try to give you an excuse for that.... lots of guests like us were annoyed, cos we work with laptops 24/7 and when the hotel advertise and offer some service, that is not avaiable, u get angry.
Delicious cheesecakes and great animation team. The heatlthy club has 4 machines , but nobody give u any advice how to use them. I knew what i was doing cos i'm a gym rat, but if somebody with no experience could find a bit hassle with no help.
They have 2 pools in there but i suggest careful with kids at the adult one.Sometimes kids not have notion about how deep it is one side of the pool, and they have a board advicing that u are by ur own, so keep an eye at your kids at the adult pool.
They not have service room if u want a wee lunch at middle of the nite, so i suggest u pass at the wee shop up theroad(mike's shop is the best, nice deals and prices).
Go eat out: center herssonissos>kymata restaurant- is in front of the sea and is just amazing place and food!!price for a nice meal for two around 30- 60€,
old herssonissos>myrthios restaurant- lovely authentic greek taverna , great food, just be careful with cats... they are everywhere in crete!! price for a nice meal 35-45€.
Trips around:glass bottom boat> darryl stays just outside at the hotel in front of a big souvenir shop, great english guy, he gonna explain for u the trip and u can get a drink at the boat ,fruits, can do some fishing and lots of diving if you like. is around 25 €
Taxis for:
herssonissos old port> around 8€
herssonissos city center> around8€
herssonissos old center>around12€
And if u like some clubbing i recommend New York day/ night beach club
Like some irish pub? I recommend the shenanigans. Great fun with nice drinks deals
And one more time... zorbas hotel Super duper!! Gonna come back!!

Supremely friendly relaxing break

from trevthetyke
Booked for one week with bookable holidays. Chose this hotel after reading reviews and the fact that Aquis had just acquired it and were trying to bring it up to standard. Received probably the best ever genuine welcome when we arrived. Room comfortable and practical, not luxurious but I didn't pay a luxury price, everything spotlessly clean, a balcony with a sea view. Fridge in room, no charge and a safe with a modest charge.
A good selection of food in the restaurant. On occasion there seemed to be a problem with keeping the food hot, probably because there were only 90 guests so the food was not being used quick enough. When this was pointed out there was an immediate response with fresh food brought from the kitchen. Good selection of fresh fruits and salads. The wine was of a good standard, not the vinegar I have experienced in other AI hotels.
The bar staff were very efficient, never had to wait too long for a drink. Although the bar was supposed to stop at 11pm, if you were in the queue before that time you would still be served,
Animation team were such lovely people. The entertainment wasn't the best ever but they had only been together a couple of weeks and you could not fault them for effort and enthusiasm. Every night when the bar closed they would go to the conference room to work on different material. In the daytime there were little silly games and tournaments but if you didn't want it, fine, not some of the "in your face, get out of your seat and play" pressure like you get in some hotels. Lovely pool, again spotless. A little cold but it is early season and as soon as the temperature increased it got plenty use.
It is a little remote but there are a couple of bars nearby. The problem with AI is that local bars cannot compete, you can't have it all ways. Anyway, we are in our mid 60's and we found no problem walking into Hersonissos near the beach.
The best thing about this hotel is the staff. Everyone from the managers down to the cleaners and waiters/waitresses always wore a smile and nothing was too much trouble. This attitude passed to the guests and everyone from all nationalities mixed together. A lovely relaxing holiday and we will return.

Fantastic Holiday at a reasonable price

from Eddy_9
We can recommend the Aquis Zorbis Village hotel having just returned on the 30th May 2009, the grounds are nicely landscaped with a great pool and the beach is just across the road, the food was OK - you could always find something to eat.

The staff and management were very friendly and helpful, the accomondation was good with the beds changed daily.

Pleasent hotel, needs improvement

from CharlotteOxford_UK
The websites all say this hotel is 4 star and some aspects of it are but it is probably more 3 star.
When I was at the Aquis Zorbas hotel it was very quiet but getting busier as it was getting nearer to peak season. I think during peak season the hotel and amenities would be very cramped.
The staff were all very helpful but the animation team were diabolical. The activities during the day consisted of throwing a ball into a bucket, playing snap, French boules and throwing a dart at a dartboard placed on the floor. Evening activities weren't much better with Bingo (they had no pens to cross the numbers out), and caberet style evenings. We didn't go to the evening entertainment but heard that it wasn't very good.
The food at the hotel was average, there wasn't much variety when we arrived but towards the end of our stay it was improving. Food was all buffet style but the selction for vegetarians was poor and food was not always very warm as it had been sat there a while.
The a la carte restaurant was not open during our stay so we didn't reap the benefits of our supposedly free dinner in the restaurant.
There are two pools at the hotel, one indoor and one outside. The outdoor pool was absolutely freezing during our stay as it is not heated. The indoor one was marginally warmer but not very big. The jacuzzi was not working.
There is no gym, only 3 cardio machines which had only recently arrived.
The rooms were comfortable, basic but functional. We had a balcony with a sea view which was lovely in the evenings.
I'd stay here again but it does need some improvement if it is going to be a 4 star hotel.
Management Response from Aquis
Thank you for taking the time to put your comments on the Trip Advisor. We are happy to hear that our staff looked after you, our valuable guests during your stay at Aquis Zorbas Village.

Aquis acquired this property just few months before season opening, therefore although our philosophy is to entirely rejuvenate our properties, this was not the case with this hotel due to lack of time. The hotel is in very good condition but some parts of the property might be considered a little outdated and knowing that, we have pass considerable savings to guests for this summer.

Right after the closure this season, we have already planned the renovation of the Aquis Zorbas Village. If you search for our hotel chain on tripadvisor you will see previous years' management responses for other Aquis properties in Corfu with exactly the same reassurance. Feel free to read the recent reviews after renovation in order to decide if we are good at it.

We are really sorry that you did not have the chance to enjoy our complimentary a la carte during your stay, as this restaurant was the only part of the hotel (along with the jacuzzi) that we could not operate without improvement after our takeover, it is unacceptable for our standards therefore we kept it close until ready. Due to this inconvenience and since according to your review you would like to came back again, we do offer you a complimentary a la carte dinner twice in your next stay at any Aquis property on top of any other offers.

Thank you once more for your review and we would be happy to welcome you again at any Aquis property.

t want to leave

Rooms are in blocks of 2 storey buildings dotted about in lovely garden settings, some overlooking the sea and others with garden views. There are some quite large grassy areas were the children can play that are accessible from the room terraces. Our room was clean spacious and airy with good and quiet air conditioning, a good size wardrobe, a fridge, small table and 2 chairs and a bathroom with hair dryer and soap and shower gel dispensers. Rooms were cleaned daily and towels changed while bedlinen was changed at least twice a week.
The food was good. There was plenty of choice with lots of salads, lovely fresh bread and a choice of of some Greek dishes ( I would have liked more) and some plainer grilled meat and fish, There was always lots of fresh fruit and a variety of cold puds ans several varieties of ice cream.
The pool area and pool bar were good with lots of beds and shades.
What made our holiday extra special though were the people. The hotel staff were so friendly and welcoming and never failed to greet you and did their best to see you had all you required.
The animation team were fantastic! They were so friendly and did so much to help us mix and enjoy our stay. They made even a simple game of darts into such good fun with their enthusiasm and great sense of humour. The activity programme was just beginning as we went so early in the season but there will be something for everyone very soon.It was developing fast as we left. The team were also very good entertainers and some of their shows had us curled up laughing.
We met some lovely people and made some good friends and are starting saving for a return trip! Affw+Barbara

Relaxing holiday, pity about the food!

from GroovyChics
The hotel was spotlessly clean, the rooms were of a good standard compared to other Greek hotels I have stayed in...spacious, air conditioned, nice balcony. The staff were friendly and curteous, did everything they could to make sure you had a good holiday. Only saw the travel rep on the first day....information he gave was pretty useless....more interested in selling trips.

Animation team were good...activities not to every ones choice but they really tried to get people to mix..

The Gym equipment arrived two days after us.....still wasn't being used when we left...there were no notices to say it was in use and no apparent instructor so unless you knew what you were doing I guess like me you wouldn't use it.

Guess the down side of this all inclusive hotel was the food....tepid...reheated on more than one occasion...lack of variety/far to much pasta and salad. Breakfast was disappointing freshly cooked eggs or omelettes. The only thing that was piping hot was the soup.....and that was delicious.

However, for a cheap break, in the sun and non stop relaxation it was perfect!

Very good value for money

from Surfersuk
Very nice hotel, staff were very friendly, pool area was very good for adults and children although neither were heated and the water was very cold. The beach is opposite the hotel. Rooms were basic but very clean. Excellent selection of food. My only critisisms were that the evening entertainment was worse than terrible and there is nothing to do at night as you are a taxi ride away from shops/nightlife etc. Taxi's are easily obtainable via reception. An ideal place to go for total relaxation if you are not bothered about leaving the complex.

What a Lovely Hotel..!!

I have just returned from a great week’s holiday at the Aquis Zorbas Village hotel and it has definitely been one of my best holidays ever! I was a bit unsure as to what to expect, given that I could not find many reviews but I needn’t have worried…!
Firstly, as a building the hotel and all its public areas, are attractive, spacious, well designed and comfortable with rather nice views of the sea in front of the hotel and some of the surrounding areas. The Restaurant is both large and airy with excellent furniture and fittings, as are the individual Bungalows, which have very spacious accommodation for two people, large wardrobes and plenty of room to move about, a larger than normal fridge, as well as a rather nice balcony or terrace in the front. The bathrooms are both reasonably spacious and well presented with lots of marble. Despite the highish temperatures (25 to 28 Celsius) during my stay, it was nice to see that the room remained cool at all times.
The pool is very large with plenty of Sun beds around it, a lovely garden and the Pool bar right next to it, supplying shade and much needed cool drinks from 10.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m., non stop. The clientele is 80% British and the remainder is made up of some French, Belgian, Spanish and Italian People.
As a seasoned traveller and repeat visitor to Greece for well over twenty years, I was very pleasantly surprised with both the variety/quantity and the high quality of the food served. Many lovely salads were available daily, plenty of very tasty Greek cooked dishes were on offer and an endless supply of fizzy and alcoholic drinks, was literally, at arm’s length. Breakfasts were equally varied and tasty and the selection of sweets and cakes, more than interesting and satisfactory for anyone.( I so tried to walk away so many times, they were that good…!)
The beach in front of the hotel stretches for at least 3 miles either side with loads of lovely sand and crystal blue waters and since the hotel is 4 kilometres from Hersonissos, you are guaranteed peace and tranquillity, although there is life around, with other big hotels and a few Tavernas and bars further down, but nothing too noisy.
What makes this hotel so special, however, is the STAFF!! Never before in my entire life, have I found myself in a Hotel with such genuinely friendly, welcoming and willing staff, who make you feel as if you are there having a holiday as part of their family!. Despite the fact that they work very long hours, seven days a week, the smiles are as big as their hearts.!! Quite truthfully, they are not simply good….they are truly outstanding.! From the moment you walk in the hotel, you are surrounded by an aura of tranquillity and welcoming acceptance where nothing is too much trouble and everyone is there to ensure that your stay is really memorable. You are actually treated as family not simply guests..! The two managers walk around talking to customers most of the time, the service in the Restaurant and Bars is truly excellent and the cleanliness in all areas including bedrooms, very high indeed. Part of the secret is that staff have been working there on average, from 5 to 14 years ensuring a tightly run ship, obvious camaraderie and superb teamwork. Compare that with the usual turnover of staff in the hotel business…..
Once a week there is a magnificent Barbecue with absolutely great food and service to die for with candles, so romantic! Given the quality of the whole experience, and the very reasonable prices charged, this hotel constitutes superb value for money.!
In conclusion, this is an excellent hotel with exceptional service that quarantees a fantastic, unforgettable experience. The whole family are now planning our
visit in the next two months and, as you can imagine, we are really looking forward to it.
Thanks so much everyone at Aquis Zorbas Village. You are the BEST!!!
