Getting to Loutro If you fly into Chania you have two choices of how to get to Loutro. Either by taxi, normally arranged by Alison from the hotel or you can hire your own car. We have done both and if you feel confident and are happy with driving in Crete I would go for a hire car every time. You can park up on the quayside at Sfakia and leave it there, free, whilst you get the ferry to Loutro and when you feel the need to take a break from doing nothing you can nip back to Sfakia and go out for a day's drive to Chania (well worth visiting) or other parts of the island. Want a sandy beach with waves? Georgiopoli just 5 km from Vryses (the first town you come to when you come out of the mountains from Sfakia) on the northern coast is great. The road to Sfakia is being upgraded and will become much easier to travel next year - meeting a coach on a tight bend could be a little hair-raising!
