Headache Hotel

The road at front of hotel is major route, the traffic not just cars but heavy goods lorries and trucks, it is loud and constant all day AND all night long. The hotel is situated in the middle of industrial site, and a walk to the local shops is very dangerous especially for children. The beach side is lovely, but be warned we booked 6 months in advance for a sea view and still got the main road. If a hotel on the M25 is your idea of heaven then go for this, if not stay well away, it really is awful !!!

Having read some reviews about this hotel (including the two above) we travelled with slight apprehension on what we could expect to the accommodation. I usually book online with Thomas Cook but as there was no way of specifying a sea view room on the online form I decided to use the phone booking option instead. The operator was very helpful and added to the booking form my request for a sea view and a view of the fortress at Rethymnon. How effective this would have been by itself I don't know as I decided to follow it up with two emails to the hotel as well. I recieved very courteous replies saying that rooms are allocated on arrival and if one was available I could request it at reception. However, our flight didn't arrive until the early hours of the morning and reception was shut. Luckily, Liz, the TC Rep knew where the room key would be and she showed us to our allocated room which did indeed have a lovely sea view. So far so good. We decided to go to bed and worry about unpacking after a few hours kip and when we woke up about midday we opened the curtains and now it was daylight we could see that the view was superb. We had a full panoramic view across the bay and the fortress in the old town looked amazing. The rooms were basic but beautifully clean, the dining areas were on terraces overlooking the sea as was the pool bar and the beach was a dozen steps down from the pool area. The beach was small and going into the water was a little tricky as there were a lot of stones on the waters edge to negotiate. Once in the sea it was sandy underfoot and very shallow for the first 50m so good for non swimmers. The lifeguard on duty was a nice guy but a little overzealous with his whistle if he considered you were "In Danger". The first time he whistled me I was about 20m from shore so I stood up and no kidding, the water was only up to my waist, still, better safe than sorry. The staff without exception were brilliant, from the manager down to the cleaners, very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was buffet style and although the hot selection was basic there was a lot of choice from the remainder, my personal choice was a big bowl of Greek Yoghourt with fresh honey every morning. Liz, the Thomas Cook Rep was always there at the allocated times even if she had just done the airport runs and only had a couple of hours sleep. She wasn't pushy about the organised trips which was nice and she arranged our hire car for us. We were lucky though with our room as other guests we spoke to were unhappy with rooms at the front of the hotel as the road is directly below the balconies and extremely busy 24/7. The worst room I was told was on the lower ground floor (Basement) level next to the kitchen as as well as road noise the kitchen staff would start work at 5.00am. The Pool was small but perfectly adequate and there was also a kiddies pool. There were plenty of sun beds around the pool and on the beach and we never had a problem with not being able to find any vacant ones. The pool and pool area was kept immaculate as was the reception and all public areas. All in all we had a lovely holiday but it would have recieved a lower overall mark if we had been allocated a room at the front of the hotel. I advise anybody travelling to the Petradi Beach to bear this in mind when booking as you cannot be guaranteed a sea view room and it will make a difference to the overall enjoyment of the holiday.

No value for money here as the hotel is right on the noisy main road. Although we booked sea view we got road view: and the receptionist did nothing unbelievable! The hotel is out of direction. No place for families with young children.

Most Disappointing Hotel!

Hotel right on main road, noise unbelievable even at 6am. Went B&B, 2 ring cooker, fine, but NO TABLE! just 2 beds. Fridge kept defrosting & noisy. Balcony tiny & overlooking main road & giant, smelly dustbin. Pool tiny, nothing like the internet video. No sand on beach, mostly stones & building sand from building site NEXT DOOR! But many thanks to THOMAS COOK REP. LIZ who moved us and others to other accommodation in Rethymnon which is a great resort & we would return but NOT to Pedradi Beach!
