Top Local Tips for Crete

Perfect People Watching! If you stroll into Agios of an evening just before the bridge and the lake there are a couple of bars with seats on the street. It's a busy place but the perfect place to enjoy a Mojito and watch all the world go by. the Greek poseurs, the brits looking like Prawns, and the glam bunch.

THE SUPERMARKET OPPOSITE MINOS Don't be deceived by the old man in the supermarket opposite. He was furious with me when I bought a non-expensive bottle of wine. I wanted a local, Cretan wine and I noticed one - on the bottom shelf - but I didn't notice the price. It was oly 4 Euros 40 and the Rose and White both tasted lovely. So,the next time I chose this wine - bearing in mind I'd spent 20 Euros a day in the supermarket, he was rude towards me and mouthed off about me in Cretan to his assistant

Spinalonga Make sure that a trip is booked either with rep or you can do it yourself at many of the boats in the nearby harbour- before going make sure you read the Victoria Hislop novel The Island- its amazing.Also the day trip to Santorini is well worth it but make sure you book to go on seacat which only takes 2 hours instead of the four that some operators offer.From Ag Nik it is an hour on coach to Heraklion before you embark the seacat so three hours there and three back does make this a long day but its worth it.
