GREAT experience!!!!!!

from 4kidstravel
My children and I stayed at the Lato last week and we were extremely pleased with the accomodations. Beautiful and spacious room - we had the executive suite. Great views! Wonderful service!!! The restaurant was great! And the staff were amazing!!!!! Excellent location, too! No complaints - high praise across the board! I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Heraklion!

Loved the Lato Boutique

My wife, son and I stayed at the Lato Boutique Hotel last July, as part of our Mediterranean experience, the trip of a lifetime. Of all the hotels where we stayed, including the ones on the more chic islands of Santorini and Mykonos, the Lato had the best breakfast of all. Its food was superb, the restaurant was clean and the yogurt and honey the best ever. Even the fruit was sensational. As for dinner, the rooftop restaurant rates a 10, too.
The location is excellent and the staff quite friendly and helpful.
We would return to the Lato Boutique without hesitation.

One of the better hotels

Everything was alright! The staff was very friendly and helpful, the room was quite big. We even got a free dinner because there was something wrong with the peanuts although it wasn't their fault!

Will cme back for sure!

I really liked the Lato Hotel in Heraklion! It has a great location near the cities best clubs, cool rooms and great service!

I stayed at the Lato Hotel for one night only but next time I am in Heraklion I’ll definitely will stay there again! The rooms where comfortable and equiped to my demands!

A short story why I liked the hotel:
In the evening of my stay a sat in my room and watched the news on TV and had an appetite for pistachios which I found in the mini bar - nothing special until now - as i ate them i got a shock as I saw a little worm inside the package! (It was still good for one more year)
I was shocked, took the pistachios and went to the reception where the hotel director was called!
He sincerely apologized and invited me and my friend to the hotels fabulous restaurant for a four course menu including great wines on the house! This is what I call customer service! Even it was nobody’s fault at the hotel that the worm was inside the pistachios the management did everything to keep customers happy! I seriously appreciate that and will stay there again for sure! They even wrote me a christmas card!

Great Hotel

We stayed at the Lato for 3 nights and the hotel was great. We had a good sized room with an ample bathroom and our balcony had a view of the harbor.

The breakfast buffet had a very good selection and the free internet computer in the lobby was a nice touch.

There is a drop-off laundromat just across the street (6 Euro per load) which was very handy since we were in Greece for 3 weeks.

The only minor issue was parking. The hotel only has space for 6 cars so we needed to park on the street which was not always easy to find. But this is a small inconvenience for a reasonably priced, really good hotel.

We love the Lato!

My husband and I stayed here during our honeymoon. We chose the hotel based on the positive reviews we read here, and it did not disappoint. We stayed in a regular room, not a suite. Our room had a small balcony and a gorgeous view of the Venetian harbor and ocean. The room and bathroom were small, but the setup of the room made the most of the space. The room was tastefully decorated in a modern style and had lots of amenities like hair dryer, TV and refrigerator. The front desk staff all spoke wonderful English and were consistently friendly, pleasant and helpful. Also, there was FREE Internet in the lobby which was great! The best part of the Lato, however, was the breakfast buffet. It was fantastic! It has all your standard breakfast stuff, but then lots of great extras like yummy rice pudding, Cretan tea and honey with thyme. Delicious! I recommend the Lato - it's comfortable, has lots of wonderful amenities and is a good value.

We reserved our double room through the hotel website, lato.gr, for 110 Euros. We arrived by ferry and took a 5 minute cab ride to the hotel for 10 Euros.

Checked-in without any problems. Our 4th floor room was clean. Beds were comfortable. Our balcony view of the Venetian fortress was a bonus since we didn't ask for a harbor view. In the lobby, there was a computer with internet access for hotel guests. In the morning, there was a small issue with water pressure which would flucuate from hot to cold.

The breakfast buffet was exceptional! Not only did the buffet contain the standard European assortment but it had Greek food as well. Spinach pie, cheese pie, Cretan tea, olives, pomegranites, etc. One of the best breakfast buffets I've seen in Europe.

Since our ferry back to Athens didn't leave until the late evening, the hotel staff didn't have a problem with holding our luggage. Luggage was kept in a separate room. There was an additional 5 Euros added to our bill. We didn't question it and just paid the bill.

The walk from the hotel to the harbor took about 10-15 minutes.

FYI - The bus station with buses running to Knossos is down the street from the hotel. After exiting hotel, make a left and follow sidewalk to Megaron hotel. In front of the Megaron hotel, make a left. You should see a staircase leading down to the lower level where the bus station is located. This bus station is less than 5 minutes from the Lato.

During our week long trip, this was the best hotel that we stayed in. If I returned to Heraklion, I would definitely stay here again.

Great view

Stayed four nights in September at the Lato. Arrived at 6 p.m. to find our room was not made-up and, the next morning, discovered, in fact, they had put us in a superior single room instead of a superior double. We spoke to the hotel management and they immediately upgraded us to a junior suite. Ensure you get a room with a harbour view.

We found the hotel to be very clean and in a good location. The breakfast was exceptional. (Great rice pudding!). We were a little disappointed with Heraklion but, if you are to stay there, we would recommend this hotel. We loved other parts of Crete.

Just because this hotel is in Heraklion, don't think you need to get out of the city to enjoy Crete. We enjoyed the sights of Crete while staying in an uncommonly peaceful, pleasant, welcoming hotel in Heraklion. A few weeks before visiting Crete, I visited a client in a retirement home. Instead of coming home too depressed and drinking alcohol, I decided to change my reservation at the Lato Hotel from superior single room to an executive suite - and I am very glad I did. There were two balconies, one was quite large with table and chars with a sweeping view of the fort on one side and to the right a panorama of the the ferry boat wharf. Arriving mid-day, we ordered room service, and savored a delicious luncheon on the terrace. The bedroom area was comfortably equipped and styled. The sitting area was fantastic with cd player, cordless phone, and a wall of sliding glass doors with views that brought out all the romantic notions of what Greece might be about. The bathroom had a jacuzzi that worked most of the time, nice touches with the amenities, including fresh flowers, and the front desk personnel were unusually pleasant, especially Anna. We got to know the housekeeper of the room, Maria, a little (giving gratuities daily instead of at the end of the stay) and she spoiled us bringing heaping portions of delicious Greek custard dessert Ghalatobouriko, which were incredibly good. (It makes baklava seem gooey sweet and unsubtle.) The hot breakfast buffet was good and overall the environment was much more modern and personable than often found in hotels in Greece, where service staff can be uppity or not see you when needed. Guests included small European groups. There's also free internet access or one can buy a wi-fi access good in the room or public areas. My friend left a personal check made out to me in the room safe and sure enough after we checked out we promptly received a polite email inquiring the best way to get the check returned to us. Within walking distance of the hotel are good shopping areas, the famous museum, many places to dine, get a haircut, etc. - We felt glad to have chosen this hotel and to have stayed in Heraklion in this quiet oasis. The extra money invested in a splurge for a suite was w-e-l-l worth it - it felt so good being in bed, knowing if one felt like it, one could just go out in the adjoining room and have this amazing view. And instead of spending money in restaurants where there might be smokers or loudness, it was fun to get take out and return to the peace of one's private terrace. Watching the ships go in and out of the wharf area, closeby contributed to the sense of Greek island life. The Megaron Hotel is close by and it looked nice and swanky, but we were glad to have stayed at the Lato. Highly recommended.

Great support for the traveller

I just returned from a Labor Day weekend at the Lato hotel. It was really a great experience. The staff could not have been more helpful, and were ready to answer every question I had. I really liked the room. I had a lovely view, so much so that it was hard to leave. The delightful breeze from the balcony made air conditioning unnecessary throughout my stay. They had a good breakfast buffet with both Greek specialities and items to suit just about any taste. I agree with another review that the free Internet access in the lobby was a great plus. The location was wonderful -- a short walk to the Archeology Museum, close to the bus stop for Knossos and points east, very convient to the harbor and the center of town.
