Dont go! Hersonissos is a dump. It is lined with row after row of tacky tourist shops, with no real heart or greek identity to speak of. You will find Irish Bars there, and brash drinking holes, plus the occasional club. Good only for the least discerning 18-30 hols, and some towns do even that much better than Hersonissos

Getting about It's worth trying the local buses - we saved loads of euros by making our own way to Knossos. The bus cost just over 5 euros each way and the Knosso entrance cgarge is only 6 euros. (Thomsons charge over 40 euros each.)

Cocktail bars Go to the decent ones off the strip (Al Paradiso) and pay a little more, rather than the "two for one" offers on the strip - they taste like anti freeze.
