A Wonderful Holiday

We have have just recently returned from a wonderful holiday on the Island of Crete. After reading the book,"The Island" I wanted to go and have a look myself. The actual island lies just off the little fishing village of Elounda in Eastern Crete. We decided to stay in the hotel Elounda Residence and what a good choice it turned out to be. The accommodation was very clean and comfortable with wonderful views over looking the Bay of Elounda with Spinalonga to the left. The hotel also has a very good restaurant which looks out over the sea and surrounding mountains. All the food served was of a very high standard served as a Greek buffet with lots of choice to suit everybody. We found the staff very friendly and helpful making sure the food was hot and well presented. all in all a very enjoyable holiday and we will certainly be going back next year. Oh, and by the way, we did visit the Island of Spinalonga. We took a boat trip from Elounda village. I can assure you it is well worth the visit.

Top Local Tips for Crete

Eating Out We tried a different restaurant every evening and they were much of a muchness. All offered cretean dishes and european dishes. The cretean house wines are very good and as was the cretean food the best restaurant we tried was the Baccus spelt Vaccus, which looks nothing from the outside but the food was delicious.

Knossos If you go to Knossos don't use the first car park where you'll be waved in by an attendant you'll be charged for the privilege and there are areas to park which are free.

spinalonga make sure you take a boat trip to the island ,we also took our snorkles water beautiful over there.
