Top Local Tips for Crete
Great base for touring Chania is a wonderful base for exploring the western side of Crete, for driving tours and hiking. You can manage without a car as there is a good public bus service and the bus station is centrally located. It is also the best base for walking the Samaria Gorge which is difficult to do by car as you have to get to Omalos at the beginning, get a boat from Agia Roumelli to Hora Skafion at the end and the road then leads back to Chania. Check online information or guide books on the Samaria Gorge and you will see what I mean.
Chania area The best car trip on Crete is driving south of Chania on the highway closest to the coast . Mountain roads and beach roads with incredible views.
Great airport transfer service from Chania airport My extended family recently took a trip to Crete, which involved six different arrival days/times and eight different departures. Ahead of time we made reservations with Taxi @ Chania ( info@taxichania.gr www.taxichania.gr ), and were VERY happy with their service. They were right on time for all arrivals and departures, no matter how early or late, the cars were new and very clean (no smoking!!), and the drivers were very polite. The fare was 20 euros each way, which is very competitive with trying to flag a taxi at the airport. I highly recommend using Taxi @ Chania for all your car service needs in Chania. And Klio, the contact there, has great English language skills, so no worries if you don't speak Greek!

I've now stayed at El Greco for 7 times in just as many years and in Hania and Crete there are still new excusions and adventures to undertake.
I strongly recommend Hotel El greco for the travellers who like the ancient town of Hania. The location is perfect: Close to the old Harbour and still in a distance ensuring reasonable calm during the night. Futhermore easy and free parking nearby and all of central Hania in walking distance.
The restaurant serves only breakfast, but that just what I like. I try to find different restaurants every night.
The staff is friendly and helpful. And they look after you and do their outmost to fulfill your demands.
The hotel is a little old, but fits my needs - and satisfying for the money.
The roof terrace is the best. A nice place to sit and take in the sun, sounds and smells of Hania and Crete.
