For the money you shouldn’t expect anything great. The rooms are very basic- No Toaster, no kettle and no TV :( But you do get a little cooker thing, a fridge and a few pans, cutlery, cups and plates etc.. Everything was clean so no problems there. The owners are quite amusing to say the least. They are in their 50s / 60s and seemed to get very annoyed at the slightest bit of noise. Sometimes you could hear them shouting at the top of their voice for people to "sleep and get out...." :) While we were there the man owner (who we called ciggy man) threatened to throw us out several times. There was also an incident where a chair that was used in our room broke when someone sat on it (no they weren’t an elephant). We tried explaining that it was an accident but got told that we had to pay 50 euros to replace it…. Luckily we found a hardware store down the road that sold them for 10 euros each haha! Taking your food / drink by the pool is also a no no so don’t bother trying. Its around a 20-30 minute walk from the main malia strip (depending how fast you can drunkenly walk? :p). We got a cab there most of the time… All in all we would happily go back there again as the owners did make it memorable.. If you’re a couple looking for peace and quiet though I wouldn’t recommend it…

After reading the reviews from 2007, I was a little nervous about staying here but when we arrived I was pleasently surprised by the tidyness and helpful nature of owners.(new owners I believe) The hotel was clean and tidy and cleaned every 2 days. The staff very helpful with anything you needed, the pool and bar area were ample enough for all your needs. Yes, it's a fair walk to the strip in malia but a taxi only cost 7 euros. Stalis on the other hand is just a short strol away and a nice change from the crazy malia strip! All in all the hotel caters for all your needs.

I don't know where these bad experiences are coming from becuase I have no complaints to make about Aglaia. hTe rooms were clean, the people were so friendly and nice - it was definitely worth the money! I'd recommend to anyone to go!

We arrived to the apartments with no welcome at all owners were very aggressive and not very helpful. We eventually got to our room after it had supposedly being cleaned to find it a total dump. They was food left in sink walls were full of marks including sick stains stained curtains I could go on forever!!!!!!. Not a very safe place for young girls to go at all as in middle of no where expect to pay out a lot in taxis if you want to be safe. Me and 2 friends went for a girly holiday really looking forward to it after saving up for a year to find ourselves coming home on the 7th night of our 14-night holiday. It’s a total disgrace and wouldn’t advise anyone to go absolutely disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!

The Aglaia apartments is the biggest disgrace to Olympic holidays its untrue, the most horrible hotel I have seen, the maids steal your towels and then charge you for them, the food is crap, everything was broken, when you come back at night there is a security guard with a horrible face holding a metal cosh! You get one roll of toilet paper for 11 nights we were there! Manager is an idiot, they all speak hardly any English, we called the boss (Stavros) he is a liability. And the pool has a constant film of suntan oil on top, no water Hoovers at all, so the corners of the pool are inches thick with sand and dirt, Please for the love of god don’t stay at this hotel, did I mention the food and drink is expensive? Oh and if your towel gets dirty you will be charged 15 euros for that too

Do not go here, nearly spoilt our holiday with hundreds and hundreds of euros of charges, you have to pay 20 euro's per towel/sheet/pillow case etc to get them CLEANED!! Even when they wern't even dirty. You can't object costs they will have you arrested. The security guard is an idiot in the night and slapped one of our friends about for being in another ONE OF OUR ROOMS!!! After 8 o'clock you are treated like a child and are expected to have your lights out, no noise and straight to sleep. Seriously do not go here, we were lucky that we still had a good time but you may not be. Nobody we met there in our eleven days said it was good, everyone got charged and everyone left a bad review.

HOLIDAY FROM HELL!

Well where do I start arrived there and waited for room to be cleaned, after waiting a short time the owner (the most aggressive, unwelcoming, scary man ever!) took us up to our room. He barked at us no noise between 12 at night till 8 in morning and stormed out and left us. As me and my two 19 years old friends looked at each other we all burst out crying. Bear in mind we had paid over £1500 for this holiday the accommodation was absolutely disgusting. Everything was stained (inc. bedding, cutlery, walls and curtains) and was so unhygienic. We expected basic but this was just a joke it was the most unclean room I’ve ever seen, none of us even wanted to unpack our cases never mind think about holidaying in these apartments. After a week of hell, me and my friends decided to book a flight home at our own expense, as we couldn't stay there any more. DO NOT go there it is unsafe for young people especially girls and the apartments on a whole are horrible. (A 2 star basic room we did expect but the filth we didn't)

It was our first holiday abroad (no parents) the accommodation was just what we expected and good value for money. Near everything beach, bars, and food places. It was clean and tidy maid service was good (did not have parents to tidy up for us) the pool area and bar were great, did not mind lilo's in the pool. The owners although quite shy!! were great and were helpful we have booked to go again in august this year cannot wait!!!!!!!!!

It was nice. I found the owners really friendly, once you actually spoke to them. They are an elderly couple so putting up with the likes of young, drunken louts, I would be pi**ed too. I thought it was in the right location, away from the hustle and bustle but a short 10 min walk to the main strip. I would def stay there again. And I loved there bacon rolls!!!

Don't go there

If your thinking of going to Aglaia Apartments, then don't bother! It is easily the worst place to stay in the whole of Greece. The owners are unwelcoming, they didn't even introduce themselves to us, so they became known as Pedro and Yoda. The apartments are marketed at young people, but they want you in bed for 11. When you arrive back after a night out, you are greeted with the now legendary phrase "No noise, no noise". If you think the person cleaning your room has an identical twin when you sit down to eat there, you would be wrong. Its same person. Thats right everyone, the cleaner is the cook! Although advertised as self catering, their interpretation of self catering is you eat their food, and their food only. Please note I am using the word food very loosely here. If you choose to eat there, please be sure to have taken out full holiday medical insurance before doing so. The people at the reception at very helpful and informative. They provide a help yourself key service, complete with list of room belongings, and details of who is in and out for any would be burglars. It is very effective, as I can vouch for seeing as 2 of my friends were burgled during their stay. You are charged for everything they can get away with. Drinks vary in price day to day depending on which sold best the night before obviously! Good management i'd say! Make sure your return flight ticket is open ended, allowing you a quick exit if your unlucky enough to end up at the Aglaia Apartments. Finally, ignore the other review, the guy is German so doesn't know what he's chatting obviously... But the nightlife in Malia... Amazing.

Top Local Tips for Crete

San Georgio Restaurant passed the church at the top of the strip (keep walking) is out of this world. Food amazing, peacefull setting. Wow! More akin to Milan than Greece check it out for a splash of culture. A complete breath of fresh air from the re-creation of 'England' Malia Mile.

General tips about Malia. DON'T drink tap water. DON'T agree to any trips from the 2wentys reps until you're sure. TAKE money to the beach to pay for sun-loungers. Go to all the clubs to find good drink DEALS. BEWARE of the Greek mums and kids at night along the strip trying to sell you things and PICKPOCKET when you're drunk and don't know what you'rer doing. Stick with your MATES- my friend's drink got spiked in Malibu club. DON'T feel obliged to go in every bar when the bar reps grab you on the street to go in. Make the most of the daytime- go further than the strip, eg shopping in Heraklion. After the reps stripped us of our money on the first day we couldn't afford to do anything during the day but sit on the balcony or go to the packed out beach. Its cheaper to buy your ALCOHOL first from the supermarket and drink before you go out- you can take less money out and are'nt as tempted to spend all your money. Change your MONEY there not at the airport -the exchange rate is better there. Go in june/july/aug.

nightlife going out on bar crawls yes there are so meny great bars and clubs most open till 6am
