Clean, cheap and amusing? :)

For the money you shouldn't expect anything great. The rooms are very basic- No Toaster, no kettle and no TV :( But you do get a little cooker thing, a fridge and a few pans, cutlery, cups and plates etc.. Everything was clean so no problems there.

The owners are quite amusing to say the least. They are in their 50s / 60s and seemed to get very annoyed at the slightest bit of noise. Sometimes you could hear them shouting at the top of their voice for people to "sleep and get out...." :)

While we were there the man owner (who we called ciggy man) threatened to throw us out several times.

There was also an incident where a chair that was used in our room broke when someone sat on it (no they weren't an elephant). We tried explaining that it was an accident but got told that we had to pay 50 euros to replace it.. Luckily we found a hardware store down the road that sold them for 10 euros each haha!

Taking your food / drink by the pool is also a no no so don't bother trying.

Its around a 20-30 minute walk from the main malia strip (depending how fast you can drunkenly walk? :p). We got a cab there most of the time.

All in all we would happily go back there again as the owners did make it memorable.. If you're a couple looking for peace and quiet though I wouldn't recommend it.

After reading the reviews from 2007, I was a little nervous about staying here but when we arrived I was pleasently surprised by the tidyness and helpful nature of owners.(new owners I believe) The hotel was clean and tidy and cleaned every 2 days. The staff very helpful with anything you needed, the pool and bar area were ample enough for all your needs. Yes, it's a fair walk to the strip in malia but a taxi only cost 7 euros. Stalis on the other hand is just a short strol away and a nice change from the crazy malia strip! All in all the hotel caters for all your needs.

I don't know where these bad experiences are coming from becuase I have no complaints to make about Aglaia.
hTe rooms were clean, the people were so friendly and nice - it was definitely worth the money! I'd recommend to anyone to go!

Loved malia..
Apart from one night the security man came into our room without knocking with his own key.
Lucky we are light sleepers and started screaming at him. NO Idea what he was doing. he left when we shouted though.

Receptionist said he was checking if oven was off. Funny he went no where near the oven. They all stick up for their own though dont they.
Thank god no one was inthe room alone though!!

Beware of him!!

HOLIDAY FROM HELL!

Well where do I start arrived there and waited for room to be cleaned, after waiting a short time the owner (the most aggressive, unwelcoming, scary man ever!) took us up to our room. He barked at us no noise between 12 at night till 8 in morning and stormed out and left us. As me and my two 19 years old friends looked at each other we all burst out crying. Bear in mind we had paid over £1500 for this holiday the accommodation was absolutely disgusting. Everything was stained (inc. bedding, cutlery, walls and curtains) and was so unhygienic. We expected basic but this was just a joke it was the most unclean room I've ever seen, none of us even wanted to unpack our cases never mind think about holidaying in these apartments. After a week of hell, me and my friends decided to book a flight home at our own expense, as we couldn't stay there any more. DO NOT go there it is unsafe for young people especially girls and the apartments on a whole are horrible. (A 2 star basic room we did expect but the filth we didn't)

Do not go here, nearly spoilt our holiday with hundreds and hundreds of euros of charges, you have to pay 20 euro's per towel/sheet/pillow case etc to get them CLEANED!! Even when they wern't even dirty. You can't object costs they will have you arrested. The security guard is an idiot in the night and slapped one of our friends about for being in another ONE OF OUR ROOMS!!! After 8 o'clock you are treated like a child and are expected to have your lights out, no noise and straight to sleep. Seriously do not go here, we were lucky that we still had a good time but you may not be. Nobody we met there in our eleven days said it was good, everyone got charged and everyone left a bad review.

We arrived to the apartments with no welcome at all owners were very aggressive and not very helpful. We eventually got to our room after it had supposedly being cleaned to find it a total dump. They was food left in sink walls were full of marks including sick stains stained curtains I could go on forever!!!!!!. Not a very safe place for young girls to go at all as in middle of no where expect to pay out a lot in taxis if you want to be safe. Me and 2 friends went for a girly holiday really looking forward to it after saving up for a year to find ourselves coming home on the 7th night of our 14-night holiday. It's a total disgrace and wouldn't advise anyone to go absolutely disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!

The Aglaia apartments is the biggest disgrace to Olympic holidays its untrue, the most horrible hotel I have seen, the maids steal your towels and then charge you for them, the food is crap, everything was broken, when you come back at night there is a security guard with a horrible face holding a metal cosh! You get one roll of toilet paper for 11 nights we were there! Manager is an idiot, they all speak hardly any English, we called the boss (Stavros) he is a liability. And the pool has a constant film of suntan oil on top, no water Hoovers at all, so the corners of the pool are inches thick with sand and dirt, Please for the love of god don't stay at this hotel, did I mention the food and drink is expensive? Oh and if your towel gets dirty you will be charged 15 euros for that too

Just got home from Malia after being there for a week. Had a great time there, this Ilios Malia is right on the strip but at night it is fairly quiet (though most nights we were out til 5 or 6am anyway so would have probably slept through anything!) at night aswell. The hotel is Ok, it's supposed to be plush but it's not the nicest 3* I've stayed in. We ended up buying our own toilet roll becuase the maid NEVER gave it to us and we kept having to ask at reception. But with 4 girls in one room it goes pretty quickly. Didn't have any bath towels for the first 3 days and had to ask twice for though. The pool looks great in the brochure, but literally, what you see is what you get. it's tiny!!

Didn't stay around by the pool, we found out own lovely communal pool area, free sunbeds and huge pool, bar area and it was so quiet becuase it's kinda hard t find as we found it by chance. But we loved it round there!

The 2wenty's reps were great out there, we had Taff (He rocked) We went on the Malia Mile - a must do becuase we made so many friends after that - the 50Cent night (though be careful because you pay about 40Euro's to be able to pay 50cent for you're drinks), the Booze Cruise, HedKandi beach party and the skool disco. EVERYONE should book the school disco, it was immense. The male reps did a strip.. woooo... so much fun and there was a 2 hour free cocktail bar to go with that aswell.

Had such a good time there that after a while you just got used to the hotel. Best places to go.. The Venue (for Indie music), HedKandi at pleasure beach, ZigZag, Banana's, Reflex and Newcastle Bar.

You really should go Malia, spesh if your a girl becuase it's 4 blokes to everyone 1 girl, and when we left a week later it was 7-1!! wooo! :-)

Had an awesome time and at the end of the day we could have had a worse hotel.

Oh.. and buy the Vodka Slush. it's soooo nice!

The ilios Hotel was a giant rip off! Where to begin...Arrived 5 o'clock in morning first expression of the hotel tidy, clean with a hotel bar at front. Then we Entered our rooms, i was shocked! 3 Star hotel.... No chance! Dirty beding, bath tub not cleaned, bad odour rooms. Next morning get a call to come to reception then we get told we have to pay 50 euro's for deposit for the rooms for if there is any damages. Further on for aircon that was a additional 50 euro's, this wasn't mentioned at all when booking the holiday. They had to keep our passport's till the end of the holiday. There was no hot water and which we had to have freezing cold showers. The cleaners only come in twice 3rd day in and then the last. The only positive thing i could say was the ladies staying at the hotel was hot!! Hotel, Very disapointing total spending for flights and additional charges for extras to hotel for a week £480

Top Local Tips for Crete

San Georgio Restaurant passed the church at the top of the strip (keep walking) is out of this world. Food amazing, peacefull setting. Wow! More akin to Milan than Greece check it out for a splash of culture. A complete breath of fresh air from the re-creation of 'England' Malia Mile.

General tips about Malia. DON'T drink tap water. DON'T agree to any trips from the 2wentys reps until you're sure. TAKE money to the beach to pay for sun-loungers. Go to all the clubs to find good drink DEALS. BEWARE of the Greek mums and kids at night along the strip trying to sell you things and PICKPOCKET when you're drunk and don't know what you'rer doing. Stick with your MATES- my friend's drink got spiked in Malibu club. DON'T feel obliged to go in every bar when the bar reps grab you on the street to go in. Make the most of the daytime- go further than the strip, eg shopping in Heraklion. After the reps stripped us of our money on the first day we couldn't afford to do anything during the day but sit on the balcony or go to the packed out beach. Its cheaper to buy your ALCOHOL first from the supermarket and drink before you go out- you can take less money out and are'nt as tempted to spend all your money. Change your MONEY there not at the airport -the exchange rate is better there. Go in june/july/aug.

nightlife going out on bar crawls yes there are so meny great bars and clubs most open till 6am
