34 of us went to stay at the Ilios resort in Malia, and all agreed by the end of the week that we had had a great time in Malia. The hotel is right on the strip and like everywhere else it has its own bar, it also had a fairly small swimming pool (although space is clearly a premium). The hotel is nice, fairly clean and comfortable with a good atmosphere.

The problem we had with our stay in the Ilios is that we felt we had been ripped off. As soon as our group got off the bus we were given a sales meeting with the 2wenties rep, which ended up with us parting with a lot of money in our first few moments after an 8hr trip. When we then went to check in we were told it would be an additional €50 for air conditioning and an extra €15 for a safe, this was on top of the ₤400 we had each paid for the holiday. The hotel also demanded that they keep our passports for the week, and I personally am very uncomfortable with not having my passport in a foreign country.

The trips the rep sold us were a disappointment, and we were very unhappy with their conduct. So in summary go to Malia you will love it if you want to party, stay in the Ilios if you can get a good deal, but DON'T BUY ANYTHING FROM THE REPS!!!! I hope this review has helped.

It was our first holiday abroad (no parents) the accommodation was just what we expected and good value for money. Near everything beach, bars, and food places. It was clean and tidy maid service was good (did not have parents to tidy up for us) the pool area and bar were great, did not mind lilo's in the pool. The owners although quite shy!! were great and were helpful we have booked to go again in august this year cannot wait!!!!!!!!!

It was nice. I found the owners really friendly, once you actually spoke to them. They are an elderly couple so putting up with the likes of young, drunken louts, I would be pi**ed too.

I thought it was in the right location, away from the hustle and bustle but a short 10 min walk to the main strip. I would def stay there again. And I loved there bacon rolls!!!

If your thinking of going to Aglaia Apartments, then don't bother! It is easily the worst place to stay in the whole of Greece. The owners are unwelcoming, they didn't even introduce themselves to us, so they became known as Pedro and Yoda. The apartments are marketed at young people, but they want you in bed for 11. When you arrive back after a night out, you are greeted with the now legendary phrase "No noise, no noise". If you think the person cleaning your room has an identical twin when you sit down to eat there, you would be wrong. Its same person. Thats right everyone, the cleaner is the cook! Although advertised as self catering, their interpretation of self catering is you eat their food, and their food only. Please note I am using the word food very loosely here. If you choose to eat there, please be sure to have taken out full holiday medical insurance before doing so. The people at the reception at very helpful and informative. They provide a help yourself key service, complete with list of room belongings, and details of who is in and out for any would be burglars. It is very effective, as I can vouch for seeing as 2 of my friends were burgled during their stay. You are charged for everything they can get away with. Drinks vary in price day to day depending on which sold best the night before obviously! Good management i'd say! Make sure your return flight ticket is open ended, allowing you a quick exit if your unlucky enough to end up at the Aglaia Apartments. Finally, ignore the other review, the guy is German so doesn't know what he's chatting obviously... But the nightlife in Malia... Amazing.

Don't get confused with the 2wentys Illios I and II , this is further up the road and across from Big Ben.
The best place you could stay in Malia, right in the middle of all the action, but quiet enough at night time, the rooms were big and clean, the staff were very friendly and you could have other people in your rooms which is very strange for Malia, the security Nicholas wanted to sleep with every girl going though, but he is really sweet. Everyone here just gets on and enjoys themselves.
If you are booking see if you can get room 212 the best one we had it and its right by the pool and everyone has to walk passed you so you get to know them, especially the sexy men
Malia of course is wicked but do be careful, 2 lads died when we were there because they were fighting but if you're just there for a good time you will be fine. The bar staff are wonderful and we got to know some of them really well, the last night me and my mate went out and got paralytic on 7 euros because every bar we went in was giving us free drinks.
So go and enjoy but be safe

It was a nice stay. The hotel in general is very nice. There's a swimmin pool, the rooms are big enough... but service was not that good and the location not so hot either, but overall i'd give it a 7.

Top Local Tips for Crete

San Georgio Restaurant passed the church at the top of the strip (keep walking) is out of this world. Food amazing, peacefull setting. Wow! More akin to Milan than Greece check it out for a splash of culture. A complete breath of fresh air from the re-creation of 'England' Malia Mile.

General tips about Malia. DON'T drink tap water. DON'T agree to any trips from the 2wentys reps until you're sure. TAKE money to the beach to pay for sun-loungers. Go to all the clubs to find good drink DEALS. BEWARE of the Greek mums and kids at night along the strip trying to sell you things and PICKPOCKET when you're drunk and don't know what you'rer doing. Stick with your MATES- my friend's drink got spiked in Malibu club. DON'T feel obliged to go in every bar when the bar reps grab you on the street to go in. Make the most of the daytime- go further than the strip, eg shopping in Heraklion. After the reps stripped us of our money on the first day we couldn't afford to do anything during the day but sit on the balcony or go to the packed out beach. Its cheaper to buy your ALCOHOL first from the supermarket and drink before you go out- you can take less money out and are'nt as tempted to spend all your money. Change your MONEY there not at the airport -the exchange rate is better there. Go in june/july/aug.

nightlife going out on bar crawls yes there are so meny great bars and clubs most open till 6am
