Top Local Tips for Corfu
Get out and see the island Rent a car, a motorbike, or a motorcycle and see as much as you can of the island. It is not huge, but it is spectacular with such amazing variety of landscapes. The absolute best beach is Chailikounas in the southwest - a mile of prime sandy beach. Skip Glifada beach on the west side - extremely crowded, not nice sand, and the water depth is too shallow. Also skip the beaches on the east coast. They are all pebbly, narrow, and not worth it. The best, most dramatic scenic spot, probably in the whole of Greece is Paleokastritsa in the northwest. Corfu town is a must-see historic site. The old town is just like being in Italy. Nothing else like it in Greece. You will find a big divide between nightlife for locals (mainly in Corfu town) and for the tourists (at the resort areas). In Corfu town, the nightlife is much the same as for the rest of Greece - cafes, bars, clubs, generally relaxing. The tourist areas get rowdies, or on the west coast are so isolated that there's nothing to do.
Corful is a beautilful island We have holidayed in Corfu more than once and loved it. I am annoyed that anyone staying at the Govia would be put off Greece
