Spent 4 nights in the centre of Athens and feel like an honoured guest,with our hosts always giving assistance with phone calls,ice for drinks and sites to see both in Greece and in Magna Grecia. Rooms comfortable and rooftop looking at Acropolis absolutely stunning.

Awesome Hotel

My stay in this hotel was just great! Its location makes your stay in Athens just very pleasant. It's 10 mns away from the Acropolis on foot. The room was small but very confortable and I had a view on the Acropolis. The staff was very friendly and helpful too. The breakfast (5 euros)was very good (orange juice, coffee or tea, bread and cake). I strongly recommend this hotel.

I had a great experience during my 4 nights at the Phaedra! Excellent location at the edge of the plaka, super close to the Acropolois, Hadrian's Arch and Temple of Olympian Zeus. I had a double on the 3rd floor with a balcony and a view of the Parthenon. A nice, clean, basic room with a sink, but had to use the bathroom across the hall for shower and toilet. The staff was very friendly and nice. Thought it was great for the price! A bit noisy in the evenings due to its location right by the Plaka shops, but that was to be expected. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.

We walked in after checking out numerous hotels in the area. Clean; own bathroom (if rather small). It was also one of the cheapest. Had a view of the Acropolis, and balcony overlooking a market street. I would definitely recommend this hotel as THE place to stay.

Stayed here in 1984

A long, long time ago, but it was great! February, 1984 (the date selector doesn't go back that far...)and I remember it fondly. A wonderful location and really nice owners, and a wide variety of other travelers to meet. Saved us from the nasty Students' Inn around the corner where we had our luggage stolen... I'd return any time; sounds like it's still going strong.

My room at the Phaedra hotel was positively like living in a shoe-box, but the atmosphere, view and location made up for the small room. I really love this hotel

This is the place to stay in Athens for budged traveller. Superb location in Plaka, clean, friendly staff. Great views from double rooms. Avoid single rooms- no view. We always stay there.

Have stayed at the Phaedre for many years. Recently refurbished, now most all rooms have new baths. Great location, why change now!

Top Local Tips for Athens

Easy to find Unlike many "good finds", the Hotel Phaedra is easy to find. It is on a weel-known street although not a crowed one. It is on a corner. You don't have to go through any back allies. It is a short walk from where the airport bus leaves you and taxis can take you there without problem.

Monastiraki flea market The Plaka District is bulging with souvenir stores just aching to get their hands on your hard earned cash. Right next to Plaka is the Monastiraki district, just north of the Acropolis. Just next to the metro station is a great flea market that also sells lots of local stuff. Open every day.

Stay off the main drag! If you're looking for a place to eat in the Plaka, you'd be well advised to look outside the main street (Adrianhou) and the large squares. The food ranges from acceptable to terrible and will always be overpriced. As with any tourist area, just work your way back a couple of streets and you'll find some real gems.
