The Novotel provides all the amenities one could want in a hotel: friendly and helpful staff (checked me in at 5 a.m. without a fuss), large room with comfortable beds, tub and shower, plenty of hot water, minibar, decent restaurant (although breakfast at 15 EUR is robbery - but there's nothing else within a 15 minute walk, so eat up!) -- and the rooftop pool (despite its limited hours) is a wonderful respite in the city. However, the area is AWFUL. Junkies, creepy looking men, prostitutes, filth, vermin ... care to add any of your nightmare scenarios? The worst part is that you must walk through it to get to the nearest metro stop which is Omonia Square -- 15 minutes away!
If you find yourself booked at this hotel and hope for safe passage to your city destination, I offer the following route: Take the first right north of the hotel (Makedonias) and follow that in an easterly direction until you reach 3rd September or 28th October (next street over).
