Top Local Tips for Athens

Oracle of Delphi Tour A bus tour to Delphi is a must. You can book full day or two day tours. If I had it to do over again, I would have booked the two day tour. These people stayed at a wonderful hotel in the new Delphi city and had more time to roam and explore the Oracle site and museum. But no matter which tour you choose, Delphi is a must see as long as you are in Athens.

Dining out near the Plaka Try a little sidewalk Taverna call Ysidri's. It features oscillating outdoor fans, delicious food and the waiters are all very nice and attentive. It's just below the acroplolis, and although there are no views of it, it's a good place to watch the Athenian night crowd and enjoy a good meal. Do try the wine by the barrel in all of the tavernas in Greece. It's about 3.5 Euros for .375 liter and very good quality.

Great Ice Cream! I followed this tip up from another website review and we weren't disappointed. There is a really nice ice-cream parlour on the corner at 21 Aisopou, Psirri. It's an odd kind of out of the way location but is quiet. The ice-cream is fantastic and is set out so that it looks like mountains of ice cream, rather than in the normal tub containers, and you can see the guys making it through a window. Flavours range from Mango and Watermelon to multiple chocolate variations. You can eat in or take out. We ate in and for 3 of us to have 2 large portions of different flavours each it only came to 10 Euros. Excellent if you're an ice cream lover!
