Great locatio
from khkh
Our stay at the Hera was really good. We did, however, have a bit of a rude surprise when we arrived from airport - despite a confirmation email from booking service I used, there was nothing on their books for us! YIKES. But, no problem - a room was available. SO, if you stay here and you should, send an email/fax directly to the hotel to confirm details. Now, the room was pleasant albeit a tad small. We had a bit of a balcony with a view of the Acropolis. The location was dead quiet and it was maybe 5 minutes walk to the Plaka area which we thoroughly enjoyed. This was a pre-cruise stay and we were sorry we only had 2 days. Everyone in Athens was great and the hotel staff was helpful. Highly recommended. Excellent rating withheld because of booking drama.
Perfect Location!

Overall this is a wonderful hotel! We stayed here twice (before & after our island trip) & it felt like home when we returned. It is beautifully decorated with every attention to detail. The front desk staff is very courteous & wonderfully helpful. We were NOT impressed with the very pricey restaurant on the roof but there are excellent restaurants within 2 blocks - especially the Restaurant of the Gods. Be prepared for a VERY firm bed. The bathroom is all marble & spotlessly cleaned every day. The location couldn't be better - it is 2 blocks to the Metro station, walking distance to the Acropolis & Plaka, & completely quiet.
nice hotel in great location

The Hera Hotel is a very nice hotel located conveniently to the acropolis and the beautiful Plaka area. The hotel is clean and nicely furnished. The beds are far from comfortable but that would be my only complaint. The rooftop restaurant served very good food with a beautiful view of the acropolis. The buffet breakfast was also quite good. Overall I would definitely recommend the Hera Hotel for a short stay in Athens.
Quite a nice hotel for our honeymoon
from TheSubmariner
Well, this was our first hotel on our Greece honeymoon. After looking at the hotel reviews on this site, we narrowed it down to this hotel. We wanted a hotel that was close to the Plaka and the Akropolis as well as restaurants and some general sightseeing.
We were more than satisfied with our stay there. We booked a suite (room 503) which had its own balcony facing the Acropolis. Very nice bathroom and bed. (It was a true queen - not two bed pushed together). There is a small safe in the room.
We did not try the rooftop restaurant as there were many restaurants in the viscinity.
The cosy breakfast room was spacious with a well provided American breakfast buffet.
The hotel was situated very close to the Akropolis entrance and the massive plaka shopping district.
Overall, we were happy there and would stay there again.

Great Hotel

A group of us stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and were pleasantly surprised. When booking, we thought this hotel was in Plaka, but it's not. However it's only a 10 minute walk to Plaka as well as the Acropolis. It is located between 2 Metro Stops on the Red Line (Akropoli & Sygrou - Fix) which was nice as we took the Metro from the airport. NOTE: If you are planning on staying at this hotel and are coming from the airport with luggage, I recommend you get off at the Akropoli stop as this stop has an escalator; the Sygrou - Fix does not. We got off at the Sygrou - Fix stop and it was quite a scene for the locals to watch 6 of us try and drag our luggage up the stairs to the street.
The hotel is located on a very quiet street which was nice and has been recently renovated. Our rooms were fabuolous. Better than we expected (and we weren't expecting much since the Frommers guide book rated this hotel a 1 star). Our room was beautiful with a king size bed which is RARE in Europe. The marble bathroom was a nice surprise (though don't be surprised if you notice a smell in there). And the view from our balcony of the Acropolis was great!! There is a daily maid service and the maids seem to be very honest. Our first full day in Athens, we left a tip for the maid, and when we returned to the room that evening, the money was still there!
The restaurant located on the top floor of the hotel was average. We weren't impressed with the food (which we thought was overpriced). Though the view of the Acropolis from the roof was fabulous!

Loved the Hera Hotel
from A TripAdvisor Member
I am a single female traveler who stayed for 4 nights at the Hera Hotel last summer. It had recently been extensively (& expensively) renovated; i.e. marble bathroom, built-in cabinet closets and mini-bar, lovely decor. A wonderful buffet breakfast was included, and the dinner in the rooftop restaurant was so good that I returned there two more times! It was only a 2 minute walk to Akropoli Metro Station, and approx. 10 minute walk to Acropolis. The hotel was immaculate, and the staff helpful and friendly. Would definitely stay there again!
A nice hotel close to center
from loveurope
We stayed at this hotel at the end of January 2005. We booked a room on one of the upper floors with a view of Acropolis. It was not the most spectacular view of the Parthenon, but it was very nice to be able to see it from your balcony. The hotel is a very pleasant and the people are very helpful. This hotel is located on a quiet residential street that is close to almost everything. To make it even more attractive it is one of very few hotels in Athens that offers parking. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
Great location
from Loves-Europe
I liked that fact that there was no traffic noise. Our room faced away from the street, as we chose not to pay the extra 20 euros to have a meager view of the Acropolis. Hotel Hera is in a great location to the Acropolis, the Plaka, and the metro, which is just a block away. There a very good family restaurant just up the street. Family run, very fun, good food. Try it...it's called "Gods Restaurant". Our only disappointment at Hotel Hera was that the rooftop restaurant was being renovated when we were there in mid-November, so we couldn't have a cocktail at the hotel. The lobby bar is not too inviting, but there are a couple of places close by to mingle with strangers and locals, and enjoy a libation. The price was reasonable, the breakfasts were good. We'd stay there again. By the way, cab fair from the airport was 28 euros, and took about 35-40 minutes. The metro was much cheaper, but takes about twice as long.
Extremely nice and what a location!

I stayed there for just one night last August.
I found it excellent and I have been very satisfied about my choice.
It is very easy to go there from the new airport by using the cheap and confortable new metro. The station is at less than 5 minutes walking. The location of the hotel is excellent. From the hotel you can quickly reach the main places in Athens center walking. The rooms are very well insulated from outside noise. Of course we could not open the window because Athens is an extremely noisy city. We just had the problem that we had 2 old ladies in the next room chatting all the night and we could hear them. Furthermore our and their room were communicating (the door in the middle was closed) and may be that the partition wall is thicker.
Breakfast was OK. Price for the room was 139 euros incl. breakfast and I can now say it is worth.

Good 4 star hotel in excellent location
from brinny
We stayed at the Hera in mid October and it was just what we wanted for a few days in Athens--its in an excellent location at the foot of the Acropolis and within a 10-15 minute walk from Syntagme Square and the Plaka and 200m from Acropolis metro station. The street its on is quiet and our room (no 401 ) had a good view of the Acropolis albeit with some tall construction cranes in the way ! Clearly though some rooms would not have a view especially those on the lower floors or at the back. There is a rooftop restaurant and bar however with excellent views although this was through glass windows that are in position all the time at this time of the year but apparently are removed for the summer months---this was the only disappointing bit of our stay. Our room was fine--not huge but well furnished (and with tea /coffee making facilities )although a couple of chairs on the balcony would have been nice.Bathroom was fine with bath/shower and plenty of hot water.Breakfast was cereals/yoghourt/fruit/bread/juice/tea /coffee etc with fried eggs and bacon.Staff were helpful and friendly.
All in all a good 4 star hotel in a well situated quiet location with local restaurants/snack bars and little shops only 2 minutes away and the Acropolis/Plaka/Syntagma only 10-15 minutes walk. We would definitely stay here again.

Top Local Tips for Athens
Do them all! Of course the Acropolis is a great attraction, but there are dozens of others; the Agora springs to mind, for example. Tthere are many small churches tucked away and they have great treasures within. And the changing of the Guard in the main square is not to be missed.
Plan Ahead Traffic in Athens is terrible. Make sure you give yourself enought time to get to the airport.
Lkyvatos Hill I think I spelt it right! We walked up here and had fantastic views of the whole of Athens and the Acropolis and a lovely meander over the hillside and there was practically no-one else there.
