Loved this hotel!

It took almost 18 months to renovate this hotel before the Olympics and the inside really reflects that. We had a wonderful view, comfortable bed, good size modern room, marble bathroom with an extra large tub. Free beer and wine every night because we opted for the Executive Floor with access to the Club Lounge. The workout facility was one of the best we had ever seen and the pool (both indoor and out) was very nice. Access to the subway-train (clean, efficient and fast) was only a block away. However, eating at the hotel can be expensive; the lunch buffet was almost $100 for two people and did not include wine! There is a restaurant on the street behind the hotel with a menu both in Greek and English and was busy (which translates into good food) with an outdoor terrace.

As far as I am concerned this should be the only place you should consider staying if you are planning a trip to Athens!

The renovated Athens Hilton is - in our estimation - now one of the top European hotels. The rooms are well-designed and well-appointed, the pool is spectaular, as is the rooftop restaurant with a priceless view of the acropolis. The service was impecable! We stayed there just BEFORE the Olympics and cannot wait to return! The value for the rate was above reporach.

Stayed over Christmas Holiday 2004. Superb Hotel 5 stars in all aspects great rooms -- size, comfort and amenities. Do it again in a heartbeat.

Booked this hotel on the basis of the reviews in Tripadvisor and what seemed a bargain rate (only €103 a night). I thought there must be a catch - but there wasn't! Service was excellent and rooms were of a decent size and very nicely furnished.

The whole hotel looked recently renovated and the outdoor swimming pool was a great place to relax after a long day's sight-seeing. Only disapointment was that the pool was closed from 1 November.

There aren't too many places to go out to and restaurants around the hotel but its only a couple of minutes by taxi (which are very cheap) to the very centre and there's a metro station very close by (alternatively, its only a 15 minute walk).

Overall, an excellent hotel - I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else in Athens!

We stayed at the Hilton because we were looking for a name-brand hotel on our first trip to Athens. We were very pleased. It is a great place to base the Athens portion of your vacation. Less than a 5 minute walk to the subway and only one stop from Monasteraki Square which puts you in the middle of all the tourist sites. Far enough away from the hustle and bustle so you can get some sleep. Speaking of sleep, the beds were wonderful! Booked via Hilton and they upgraded our room just for asking - great balcony with a direct view of the Acropolis. If you are going to Athens, this is the place for you.

Stayed at the Athens Hilton for four days during October of 2004. The hotel was EXCELLENT. I am a very frequent traveller and typically stay at Hilton Hotels. This is one of the best (possibly the best) Hiltons in Europe. It was the host hotel for the Int'l Olympic Committee and has been completely refurbished to a high standard. A very nice large modern hotel.

It has an excellent "club room" with free drinks and a nice breakfast for free for those who stay on the executive floor. It may be worth paying the extra for the free drinks and food.

The positives: Clean, recently refurbished, close to metro station, fantastic health club/pool, great staff, good size rooms (particularly for Europe), very modern style.

The negatives: Taxi or metro ride to the tourist areas.

Made Honeymoon that much sweeter!!

My husband and I stayed at the Athens Hilton for our honeymoon in April/May, and it was amazing. It was a long flight, and it was raining that day, so by the time we arrived at our hotel, it was a breath of fresh air. They recently remodeled, so the floors and bathroom had beautiful marble tile throughout. We had a great view overlooking the pool and facing the Acroplis. The staff were delightful. They were constantly courteous, and helpful when suggesting a restaurant or sites to see. I strongly recommend this hotel. We had a great time in Greece, hugely because of the hotel.

Stayed here in October 2004. This place is awesome! It is spacious, clean, and the rooms are modern, quiet, and comfortable. Bathrooms are big, clean, and have great water pressure. Lots of pillows on a big bed. Staff is friendly and attentive. Apparently it was refurbished about a year and a half ago, and the 2004 Olympic Committee stayed here in August and September - so you can imagine it is top quality. It copies, to some extent, the "W" hotels in terms of ambience and decor - so think modern looking. There is a street right behind the hotel that has a great internet cafe, some hip bars/clubs, and a place to grab a tasty crepe and drink beers on a patio. There is a metro station just 5 minutes walk, and the metro stop for the "plaka" is one stop away. And, the metro station is on the same line as the metro to the new, modern, Athens airport (the metro is new and modern too!). Looking east, you can see the Acropolis all lit up at night, and there is a nice bar, patio, and restaraunt on top of the hotel with an amazing view of the entire city and Acropolis. Rooms are pricy, but check Travelocity and other sites and I recommend traveling to Athens in the shoulder season to get a better price, avoid the mass crowds, and enjoy slightly cooler temps. Shoot for June or September in Greece, and it will be perfect! We paid 135 euros a night for the stay in October, and booked it through Travelocity - although Hilton was offering the same rate direct. I also recommend spending a little more for places in Athens since it is a big city, full of noise, and crowded. The last thing you want is a noisy hotel room, and the Hilton offers a safe haven in an otherwise crowded noisy town. Spend the extra euros and stay at the Hilton. Besides, most people know to stay in Athens for just 2-3 days....the big attraction is the Greek Islands!!!

Top Local Tips for Athens

Benaki museum A 5 minute walk from the Hilton is the Benaki museum, which is very interesting because of the diversity of the collections presented (anything about traditional Greek lifestyle: jewels, furniture, decoration. etc.) Worth a visit.

Great metro We found the metro so eay to use and much faster than sitting on the clogged streets of the city. Whenever we asked strangers for directions or help in the Metro, we were always treated politely and people were very kind and helpful. Each trip costs less than 1 Euro, but we purchased the week-long pass for 10 Euro, a real bargain. Using taxis in Athens is a real adventure, since one must negoitiate the price with drivers who seem to consider the whole process an opportunity to intimidate and defraud tourists.

Attica Zoological Park Please go to the Zoo, its hardly advertised and despite my husband being Athenian he did not know of its existance. Easily up there with other Capital city zoo's, it has a very good selection of animals well looked after. in the Mesoginea area of Athens, near to Airpot. A great day out for the kids.
