Customer service is not good
from douglasyoon
First of all, I read a good review from other members' top choices of hotels in Athens. So, for the last night at Greece with my wife, I choose this Hotel.
But when we checked-in, the Front Desk Clerk was not welcoming for us and the next day the Breakfast area employees are really rude.
They do not care about the Hotel Guests, and only talk and talk and talk each other.
Overall, the Hotel Room, location and view was Good.
But for a more relaxing trip, I do not recommend this hotel at all.

I chose the Athens Gate Hotel after reading trip advisor reviews, and as usual, it was a fabulous recommendation. We spent 3 nights at the hotel, and spent 420€ which included the breakfast (which is not to be missed - the view is incredible from the rooftop garden)
The room was large and modern, giving us wonderful downtime between sightseeing, iced coffees, ouzos and delicious greek cuisine. We had a flat screen TV and a charming little terrace. If you like crisp white bed linens, you won't be disappointed, the bed looks and feels so clean and fresh, you won't want to leave it! The bathroom, a real deal breaker for me, was clean, bright and compact. The shower pressure was good, and my husband enjoyed the complimentary slippers in particular!
The staff were wonderful to us, going above and beyond our expectations. Our luggage didn't arrive until 2 days into our stay, and the front desk staff helped us sort out a few things. I would not only recommend this place to my best friend, but I would love to go back.
Location wise, this hotel was perfect. It's a great city to explore on foot if you are up to it, and the hotel is right there in the thick of it all. It is also quite handy to the metro system (which is very user friendly - only 3 lines - but one goes to the airport which will save you the 25 - 35€ cab ride)
Loved this hotel, and believe you will love it too!

An outstanding hotel

We highly recommend the Athens Gate. The location is great for sightseeing - across the street from the Temple of Zeus and around the corner from the foot of the path leading to the Acropolis. The hotel is also in the Plaka district, which is the old part of the city with all of the shops and restaurants. The views of the Temple of Olympian Zeus and the Acropolis from the restaurant/breakfast room on the top floor are outstanding.
The rooms have been recently redone and are very comfortable, with a definite touch of luxury (the bed linens were lovely and the soaps and shampoos were high end). We found the hotel staff to be helpful and very professional. The continental breakfast was nicely done and had excellent variety.
Our only minor complaint was that the hotel is on a major road, and there is some traffic noise, at least in the rooms facing the temple of Olympian Zeus. However, with the door to the balcony closed, the noise was minimal and did not detract from our stay.
We would definitely stay here again if we return to Athens.

Great Hotel

We just got back from our trip to Athens. We stayed at Athens Gate for several days in Nov 2007 and we loved it.
Great location: across the street from the Temple of Zeus, 2 blocks away from the main pedestrian walk way to the Acropolis, walking distance to Syntagma Square and the main shopping area in Plaka. Best of all, the hotel is 3 blocks from the Acropoli metro station that has train service direct to the airport.
Hotel Amenities & Staff: Very friendly and helpful bi-lingual staff. You're greeted with Turkish delights at check in :-) The hotel's roof garden offers an amazing view of the Temple of Zeus and the Acropolis. Night time views are amazing.
Rooms & Value: Rooms are modern, stylish, and very clean. Most rooms offer a patio and have a LCD/Plasma TV. Love the toiletries - natural Apitiva brand. Great value for a top class leisure hotel. The free continental hot/cold breakfast is fantastic and is worth it.
We booked this hotel based on the reviews and pictures we read/saw on Trip Advisor. Now, having stayed there, we agree with our fellow traveler reviews and we highly recommend this hotel.

There are not enough postive words to describe this hotel !!! I travel extensively worldwide for business and often stay in top ranked 5 star hotels. That said, I will never stay anywhere else but Athens Gate when in Athens from now on... The room was on the small side but the balcony was large and had the most amazing view of the Acropolis I could have imagined!!! The roof restaurant was cozy and inviting and the food was excellent - the green salad with mint leaves and greek cheese (not feta...) was amazing. The staff are all very friendly and go out of their way to ensure you have a wonderful experience - special kudos to John (from Montreal) for serving breakfast with a smile and a friendly chat every morning... Breakfast is included and although choices are a bit limited, what is offered is very nice and the view of the Temple of Zeus in the morning is lovely.
The Athens Gate is one of the best all round hotel experiences I have ever had and I will definately be back!

Athens Gate is superb

The Athens Gate is a superb choice -- a sleek, contemporary boutique hotel with professional and extremely helpful staff, nice rooms, fantastic views, and hard-to-beat location, 3 minutes from the Acropoli Metro stop.
Our room had a balcony with view of the Temple of Olympian Zeus, right across the street. The roof terrace has 360 degree views, including the Acropolis, beautiful at all hours. The restaurant is superb - we ate there twice in 5 days - and the breakfast buffets are sumptuous.
We received personal-touch care at all times from the staff -- my husband was even able to borrow an adapter for his camera battery charger when ours broke down.
We would never stay anywhere else in Athens.

Great Hotel!

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for our anniversary. We had not booked this hotel, but were sent here was our original hotel had a water leak and needed to transfer our booking to the Athens Gate. We were definitely pleasantly surprised at this hotel. It is clean, modern, and the views are awesome. The beds are comfortable, the breakfast is great, and the rooms are large. The staff was very kind and took care of our needs. It is within walking distance of the Plaka, the metro lines, and the Acropolis. I am not sure of the price of the hotel, as our previous booked hotel covered any increase in rates from the switch. This hotel should definitely be near the top of the Trip Advisor Athens hotel list!
Loved It

Great clean modern rooms, some with fantastic views if you are lucky! Rooftop bar/breakfast area also has amazing views of Acropolis. Staff is very friendly and helpful, especially Petros the manager. He pointed out all the sites to us from the roofbar our first night. Excellent location as well, walking distance to Plaka.
What a Find!!
from EdBMaryland_USA
We had the great pleasure of staying at the Athens Gate hotel in mid-September, 2007. It was a great last-minute find, since we had been unceremoniously “bounced” from another hotel we had booked months previously. The Athens Gate did not turn up in our original internet search, perhaps because it was so newly renovated. Our room was most pleasant, with tasteful contemporary furniture, a very comforable queen bed, and a patio directly overlooking the Zeus Temple and Lyckabettus Hill in the distance. The bathroom had the necessary conveniences, including an overhead shower. The buffet breakfast (fresh fruit, various eggs and breakfast meats, tasty pastries) was served on the rooftop (both outdoor and indoor seating), with spectacular views of the nearby Acropolis on one side and the Zeus Temple on the other; a truly stunning 360 degree visual. The location is absolutely terrific, just around the corner from the Plaka, and only a short walk to the Acropolis, the National Gardens, and other popular sights. While the hotel is on a busy street, the area is very clean and pleasant to walk around, particularly with everything so close by. The Metro station is just a short walk from the back of the hotel, and there is also a nearby stop for an excellent “tourist tram” that allows you circle the city, stopping wherever you like to spend time before hopping back on to resume your journey (in fact, the 5 euro ticket allows 24 hr access to the bus and subway system as well; tickets must be purchased at Syntagma Square, a modest walk or short Metro ride away). Though our room faced the busy street in front of the hotel, we heard no traffic noise with the windows closed (as required for the AC, which worked fine); in fact overall the room and hotel were extremely quiet and peaceful. Finally we must mention the staff – not only were they extremely courteous and helpful during our stay, but they also took it upon themselves to forward to our home in the USA a package that we had inadvertently left behind, at no cost to us (Thank You, Petros!). While we have not stayed at other Athens hotels, the combination of the quality room, great location, fine breakfast, fabulous views, and outstanding staff make the Athens Gate a particularly excellent choice, particularly given the very reasonable rates compared to other hotels with similar or lesser features (and in some cases unfavorable reviews). For our next trip to Athens, we have no reason to book anywhere but the Athens Gate.

All the staff were welcoming, helpful and efficient in this beautifully decorated hotel with its thoroughly modern conveniences and its spectacular views of ancient landmarks.
Top Local Tips for Athens
Ask before you hope on Although taxi in Athens are cheap by European standard, but do ask before you hop on as the price could get varied a lot. The taxi fare from airpot to down town Athens in my experience ranged from 20-47 Euro to the exact same spots!
Food in Greece is Great! All the taverns in Plaka area !
Tourist tram For 5 euro, get bus around Athens center, with disembark and resume at any point. Ticket also good for bus and metro system
