As the others wrote: ist small nice and clean, absolute central but quiet. Good breakfast and nice people. I absolutely can recommend it - even getting a parking lot wasn't too difficult in these streets! And that with these reasonable prices! Just stay there.

This smalll , clean hotel is the perfect spot to explore Athens from . It is within walking distance of the Plaka and Acropolis and the subway is just down the street for those who do not wish to walk.

The rooms we very clean and the atmoshpere very realxing.

The owner and staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome.

We hope to stay here again in 2011 when we return to Greece.

This past summer, my husband and I were delighted with our stay at this lovely, small classic hotel in a quiet residential area of Athens that was within 15 minutes walk of the Plaka and other well known "tourist" areas. This was our third summer in Greece and we were already familiar with two other hotels where we had previously stayed. The Art Gallery was miles above either, and still had extremely reasonable rates.

One of the most well known travel guides had described the rooms as "small and plain" but we found this to be definitely NOT the case, since we had stayed elsewhere the previous summer and KNOW what "small and plain" really means, along with a "view" of an inside fresh air shaft!!

The Art Gallery rooms are classic, clean, and have an slightly Art Deco ambiance. The morning breakfast, (serrved on the fourth floor outside terrace in good weather) is delicious and a really good value. The staff ( mostly family members who live on site) are friendly, knowledgable and gracious. Although we spoke enough Greek to get by easily, they are fluent in several languages so there is no problem with communication.

The street outside is small with minimal traffic. The Metro stop is within 5 miutes by foot, at the end of a lovely, and quiet pedestrian-only street. Very convenient!

We can recommend this unique hotel with no reservation. They do not accept credit cards but will happily book your room by email or phone in advance.

Top Local Tips for Athens

Take the Bus It is best to take the bus to Piraeus or to Syntagma and then take the metro. It is much cheaper than taking the taxi. A taxi directly from the airport may cost upwards of 25 euros if you dont know what you are doing. Get your hotel to book a taxi if must take one. The X96 to Piraeus runs every 40 minutes 24 hours a day. You must flag it down, sometimes they dont stop automatically.

Benaki museum This museum is interesting and has displays about modern Greece as well as ancient history. It's not so busy as the Archeological Museum and is pleasant to wander around during the heat of the day.

Check the meter Make sure that the meter is calibrated in euros -- if not ask what the conversion rate is and agree approx price up front.
