Decent hotel
from SAS13The staff of this hotel was extremely polite, except for one desk clerk, who worked in the afternoons. My room was very nice for the price, and the lobby was very pretty. I especially liked the breakfast room (and the food was pretty good!) and the computers near the front desk (very handy).
The hotel's neighborhood is a little strange--lots of car rental agencies around. But, I enjoyed the location because of the proximity of the Acropolis, the brand new (clean!!! and futuristic) subway, the old Plaka neighborhood, and my favorite restaurant of all, in Greece: God's Restaurant (written up in an older version of Lonely Planet's guidebook for Greece). The family who owns and runs the restaurant are friendly beyond belief (what an unexpected surprise!), and the food is delicious. My waiter brought me inside to see the food behind the glass, so I could choose with my eyes, as well as my brain. He explained every item well in perfect English. I returned the following day for lunch and had a different waiter (not a family waiter), and he was just as wonderful. I had a delightful time talking to everyone who worked at this restaurant, as well as other patrons.
I think the Acropolis Select is a good choice for Athens because of its location, price, and friendly staff. The Plaka neighborhood is the only neighborhood I would have rather stayed in, but the prices were terribly high there. I would stay at the Acropolis Select again.
Great Hotel in a Great Location
from TubatravelerWe stayed at the Acropolis Select Hotel based on
the opinions found on the TripAdvisor site. The location of the hotel is great. Two subway stops
from Stagma Square. The Acropolis stop is fine during the day but the next stop is only one block from the hotel. The Acropolis stop has an elevator, which makes going up the to ground level a little easier. Turn right from this Metro stop and proceed down the hill past the Hera Hotel, the street is very narrow, and in a couple of minutes you will see the flags flying from the Acropolis Select.
Our room wasn't very large but there was plenty of closet space. The bathroom had a full bath tub and a hand held shower. The room was imaculate every day.
Each room, double, had a balcony with two chairs a table and awnings. Breakfast at the hotel was excellent. The hotel desk personel were very helpful and were able to give us all the information we requested. We booked our tours with Key tours. This is the forth time I have used this company and have found them to be reliable. They pick you up from the hotel and deliver you back to it or will let you off anywhere along the route. I would suggest that instead of taking the three island tour that you instead go the Pireus port and book a trip to Hydra on your own. This will give you time to really expore the island, buy a great meal and save time and money. Their tour to Delphi is outstanding. When you stay at the Acropolis Select you are in walking or riding distance of almost everything there is possible to see in Athens. Now I am off to another country and will use the Tripadvisor for help.
Comfortable and value for money!
from Mark2211Overrated. Deserves two stars
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe renovation was confined to the entrance and lobby areas to give the hotel a glossy modern appearance.
The rooms are a different story. They are outdated with single pane windows and street noise from two sides makes a good night's rest almost impossible.
Nice medium priced hotel

Recomended hotel
from colaboy7The breakfast room is very nice and so is the breakfast. Would definatelly recomend it.
A very big plus is that it is very close to the Sygrou-Fix unerground station.
Great Place
from A TripAdvisor MemberThis Hotel has been recently updated, so the rooms are nice and clean, standard Motel look interior. The bathroom is a good size.
The best thing about this Hotel is the location. A block and a half from Sygrou-Fix Metro station. Two stations from the the central location of Syndagma, where you can catch E95 bus to the Airport, beware taking the bus if you are in a hurry, better take the train, but need to change at Monstraiki station for the Airport train. The bus is 2.90Euro, while the train is 6 Euro each way. The Hotel is also close to The Acropolis, the Plaka etc. There is good restaurants nearby. The Hotel recommended a restaurant by the name of Vitro, which turns out to be really good. Authentic Greek fare at a reasonable price. There is a Supermarket nearby, a 24Hr internet station called Click also (The hotel has 2 stations at the lobby which has not been working for 8 months apparently). We had a really good stay for 85.50Euro a night. Also deserving a mention, the great hot buffet breakfast, bacon was cooked perfectly.
Top Local Tips for Athens
metro tickets get the 3 euro 24 hour ticket when you go out in the evening then it will see you through the next day and to another restaurant the following evening.
Easy as 1-2-3 Buy a daily ticket for 3 euro and you can use the all means of public transport for 24 hours. The metro system has only 3 lines and very easy, clean to use. All stations are signposted in English and announcements on the train, trams and buses are all in English and Greek.
Bottled water is cheaper at the grocery store We are always concerned about water quality when traveling. I've always found that bottled water from grocery stores and convenience stores away from the tourist areas were better. A liter in the Plaka may be 1-2 Euro, but you can get 2-4 liters for the same price at the non-tourist spot.
