Fantastic Taverna only steps away . . There is a tiny little taverna calle Paradosaiko just a few steps from the hotels front door. It is not much to look at, but the food is fantatstic, and inexpensive. Dad runs the front of the house, Mom cooks in the kitchen, and the kids wait table. There is a lot of shouting, and just really good home cooked food

bar scam My husband was the target of a scam, which he later discovered was outlined in the Lonely Planet Guidebook on Greece. He was approached in the main shopping street of the Plaka district by a middle-aged Greek man who was very friendly, asking my husband where he was from etc. The Greek man said he had many family connections in Australia and then asked my husband to accompany him around the corner for a drink at his bar. Not wanting to appear rude and somewhat taken aback by the man's overt friendliness, my husband went into the bar only to to be confronted by four "ladies of the night". After making a hasty retreat back to our hotel, my husband read about the scam in the guide book. The scam works by pressuring an unwitting tourist to buy drinks for the "ladies". The tourist is then handed an astronomical bill, after which the Greek hospitality turns sour.

forget taxi drivers No need to take taxis anywhere in Athens, unless you are going short distances; otherwise, the public transport system is brilliant, especially the Metro.
