Top Local Tips for Athens

Not Going Back Gotta say, though I had a good time it wasn't Rome, Paris or London. Not the most charming place aside from the fantastic history, which is located well outside the city for the most part. The Plaka was entertaining and we found some good places to eat. I just didn't find it conducive to strolling and casual sightseeing like in many other of the European cities have have been to. If I was to recommend Athens it would be for 2 days before heading to Santorini!

Stay close to Plaka, take Key Tours Athens is a great place to walk around. Stay close to the Plaka and walk everywhere. We took KEY tours & they were all good. Especially like the 3 island, one day tour. Felt we accomplishe a lot that day. Watch your taxi fares..they will try and charge you too much. Ask price to your destination BEFORE you get in then bargain.

omonia area although I have stayed in the Omonia area of times on many occasions and had no problems , for the nevous traveller i would not recomend this location to stay.The area is quite run down and many immagrants "hang out" here.
