The Athens Acropol hotel is conveniently located near Omonia square and its underground train station. So it's a good place to be if you are going to be using public transport a lot. However, (and I wasn't aware of this when I made the reservation), Omonia square is at the edge of a rather seedy district occupied by brothels and insalubrious housing and where pimps carry out their business including the dealing of drugs (mainly after dark). However, they might have improved the area just before the Olympic games of summer 2004. I was there in January 2004.
The double room that I had was clean, comfortable and quiet although the breakfast left much to be desired. The hotel boasts a 'fitness facility' which in fact equates to two or three tired looking cardio machines in a tiny, airless, basement room. I can't imagine anyone doing any fitness exercise here. It is supposed to be a four-star hotel but I'd rate it three stars. |
