travelling if you're going straight there and not island hoping, stay in Rafina port overnight and get the early morning ferry over, very relaxing. (we stayed in Avra hotel in Rafina - about 1 min walk from the ferry!) oh and if you buy your ferry tickets there - go to a ferry office with a crowd outside - they are about 10 ticket agent shops - all selling the same tickets for the same price - but for some reason we couldn't understand all the locals gravitated towards just 2 agents, which we also assumed must be the thing to do, but if you don;t speak Greek its almost impossible to get served, so we tried an empty shop next door, with 3 awating staff and were served instantly! very puzzling, but worth it if your ferry leaves in 20 mins and you can;t understand why 40 shouty Greek people are all pushing infront of you!
