I checked the Greek Travel Pages for a hotel near the port in Ag. Konstantinos so that I could spend one night for the purpose of catching an early morning hydrofoil to Skiathos. Oh my. I emailed the property manager, and he was both quick to respond and helpful, but when I arrived, I found no parking, no hot water, no breakfast (as quoted in the price), no English speaking staff (heck, no real staff -- just a note on the front door directing those with a problem to go to Room 1 for help), an out of order lift, dirty rooms, all-in-one bathroom with a corroded hand-held shower head spewing ice cold water, cigarette burns in the sheets and blankets... My recommendation is to take the bus from Athens and catch a later ferry avoiding Ag. Kon. entirely. It was a totally inhospitable town with Roma children begging in the restaurants and a Hellenic Seaways employee who had never seen a prepaid ferry voucher. Thank goodness my ultimate destination, Skiathos and the Hotel Alkyon was such a delight!
