Top Local Tips for Aegina

Aegina, a living and working island The attraction of Aegina is that it lives, works and breaths all year round, apart from the resort of Agia Marina, which sleeps during the winter. Hence, the island has an all year round community and life, and locals who are very proud of their island. The main post of Aegina Town is very pretty and there is always plenty to see, with boats and hydrofoils coming and going; and a wonderful range of ways in which the local motor cyclists "wear" their crash helmets, according to whether the current "sherriff" is in town or not! The best sandy beaches (two) are in Marathonas, which is on the bus route to Perdika. The nearest beach to Aegina Town has tavernas and bars nearby, while the furthest one has a beach bar open in the summer. The Temple of Aphaia is best visited in the afternoons, when the main trips have gone; and try to stop on the way at the junction where the road forks right to the Temple, since there's a wonderful local potter who is the fourth generation potter.
