Glass bathroom doors !

Quite a nice hotel ! Good food ! But it seems that all the bathroom doors have see through glass ! So no privacy even on the toilet !!

Very Elegant hotel love it

Stayed for 2nd time in April this year. Love its style and elegance, the cocktail bar is great and offers an excellent selection of cocktails, bar staff are very professional - all staff are very professional. The help yourself buffet dinner is also excellent, everything you can imagine, as is the buffet breakfast.

Only one small negative point, in some rooms bedroom furniture beginning to look a little shabby(ie chairs mainly - beds fine and very comfortable), but everything else makes up for it.

It just oozes style. Cant wait to go back again.

Excellent hotel

I visited Nuremberg recently and found the Meridien Hotel an unexpected delight. A lovely welcome, friendly staff, superb food (dinner and breakfast), exellent location and very comfortable rooms with Art Deco fittings. It also felt quite unique. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and look forward to another visit. Another visitor to this site said that the rooms were small, well, by American standards maybe, but really how big do you need a bedroom to be. This one had a seating area and a fine view. Go there

Pleasant Stay

We stayed here Nov. 26-28, 2004 to visit the Christmas Market. The location of the hotel is great, as it is walking distance to the old city center, German National Museum, and markets. The front desk staff were efficient and friendly. A burnt out light bulb in the room was changed within hours. Our room was small, and the art deco style bedroom a bit worn, but the bathroom was bright, clean and new. We would stay here again.

Average hotel with reliable and friendly service

The Meridien is in a great location for visiting the old town of Nuremberg. It is a nice hotel and comfortable. If you are expecting Meridien type of comforts this it is not (it is more a three star quality hotel) but the service was very helpful and attentive. I think Frommers completely overstates the quality of this hotel; it is a satisfactory hotel not a top hotel.

The staff was very friendly and we paid 125 euros a night in November 2004 (during the Christmas market and this included breakfast) We called the country booking line on the website, not the hotel direct as price was 295 euros for same room if you called the hotel directly see this link for telephone numbers - -------------------------------------
There is lots to do in Nuremberg; we did the English tour which leaves from the TOurist office near the Christmas market (on Saturday at 1pm) and visited the Documentation Center Nazi Party Rally Grounds (just outside the city) which is MUST. This takes at leat 2 to three hours so plan accordingly! The Kinder Market is beautifully old fashioned and can't wait to have kids to bring them here - it was magical.

Nuremberg is a fantastic weekend break - don't expect to loose weight here as it is impossible to resist eating bratwurst, lebkuchen, mulled wine and all the other tempting goodies. The Christmas decorations are fantastic but not cheap, if you like traditional wood decorations this is the place for you! Kathe Wolhlfarht has beautiful decorations but also look in the stalls at the market for other (cheaper!) ones as well. Can't wait to go back!

Not Bad

We stayed at this renovated grand-hotel style establishment in April, 2004, and found it both a good location and a comfortable stay. It is really the only large hotel with major amenities within walking distance of the centre, has a good staff, great breakfast, smallish but well equipped and comfortable rooms. Not sure the rate is worth the amenities but we enjoyed it nevertheless.

Great location, good service

My husband made the reservations through Le Meridien's website, and while there, he signed up for the Le Meridien Moments program. Because of this--and it was free, of course--the lady at the front desk gave us a room upgrade on checkin. We didn't have a problem with space at all.
In addition to the king-size bed (which they called a "double" because it had two twin-sized mattresses), we had a small table, a couple chairs, and plenty of walking space. If you're going to stay here, I'd recommend signing up for the program in the hopes of some benefit, though it isn't guaranteed, of course.

As others have mentioned, the train station is immediately opposite the hotel. What I haven't seen mentioned is the proximity to SHOPPING. The Grand Hotel is very close to Nurnberg's two main shopping streets.
Everything from a Woolworth's to a store which sold a cute twin set...for 890 euros! (Zoinks.) Lots of restaurants nearby, too. German, American fast food places, an Argentinian steak place, Chinese, an Irish pub...all within easy walking distance.

The hotel's restaurant was nice for breakfast. I thought breakfast came with the room until we checked out and discovered it cost an extra 30 euros per day for the two of us. Had we known that, we probably would've eaten elsewhere, but no one asked when we checked in whether we wanted breakfast at the hotel. If you don't want to be charged for it, you probably need to let them know on check-in. They did put out a good spread for breakfast, though. Tons of choices, including eggs made to order, lots of great German breads and pastries, meats, yogurts, cereal, sausage, bacon, potatoes...Certainly, it was worth 15 euros apiece.

We didn't eat at the restaurant, but we had drinks at the bar several evenings. The service was great.

The hotel has a computer near the front desk, which patrons can use to access the internet. (No extra charge.) Very convenient.

All in all, I'd recommend this hotel. I will stay there again if and when I revisit Nurnberg.

a review worth reading

The Grand Hotel looks very nice and if you want a hotel for it's location then there you have it. However, I thought that for the price of the room I should have received a little more than the hauptbahnhof in the near. Nice lobby but the 4 star rating apparently overlooked the rooms, which is what really matters to me

The Mostly Grand Hotel in Nuremberg

from A TripAdvisor Member
My wife and I spent three nights at the Grand Hotel in Nuremberg in mid-August. We had booked the Grand Hotel because of its location, the reasonable price and the air-conditioned rooms. As it turned out August was very hot and the prospect of an air-conditioned room in Nuremberg after no air-conditioning in Berlin was very attractive. However once we arrived at the Grand Hotel and experienced the A/C we decided that the A/C was some sort of a retro-fitted variation of A/C; not up to American standards. We were still happy that the air blowing around in our room was cooler than outside, but it was not the real deal. The room was quite large with a wonderful bath and shower. The mini-bar prices were typically over-priced. The drapes would not close completely so we had to hold them closed with a ballpoint pen clip to keep the early morning sun out. The reception desk staff was mostly friendly but not that well informed about their own historic city.
Luckily the tourist office was just across the street. The restaurant in the hotel was good but very expensive(especially the breakfast), but the staff there was more genuinely friendly than their colleagues at the main desk. We enjoyed the apples they had in a large bowl near the reception. Our request to have a faulty doorknob repaired was honored the next day.All in all we would stay at the Grand Hotel again but our expectations would be lowered just a bit.

Great effort!

I stayed four nights at this hotel, on my stay in Nuremberg, Germany. The location is excellent (right across from Nuremberg's main train station), but VERY busy with traffic. These years, getting any kind of decent service from a business continues to get rarer and rarer, and, having EVERY staff member at a hotel conduct themselves in a professional, kind way, is just as rare. Thankfully, at the Le Meridien Grand Hotel, only one of their employees behaved in an unprofessional way to me, a young woman who brought up my room service food one night, and it was minor, and she is forgiven (but these negative experiences, no matter how small, will never be forgotten). All of the other staff members at this hotel conducted themselves reasonably well, to superbly. My great appreciation to Ms. R. Kuhn, the young lady front desk staff member who checked me in,for superb, and very professional conduct! (and great kindness). And to the tall, young German porter, who I chatted with on the night I checked in. And to the gentleman front desk staff member who checked me out of the hotel---I prefer not to give his name, as I do not remember exactly what it was (and do not want to get it wrong), but he was very professional, and very friendly and informative as he told me some of the history of the building the Grand Hotel is located in. That building is quite old, about a hundred years if I remember what he said correctly, and the room I stayed in was very small (the bed took up almost all of the room). The room service food (I did not eat in the restaurant) was good, but not great. The room was clean, and the small bathroom had a large, circular vanity mirror, which is a nice extra to find in the bathroom. As the building is very old, the hotel is not in the condition that a new building would be in. I could not open my door when I went to my room after checking in, the German porter had to show me how to turn the key to open it, and as well, the entryway ceiling light in the room didnlaced it for me). The room rate I was given was reasonable considering this hotel's status (110 Euros a night). On my next trip to Nuremberg, I would stay at this hotel again if the nightly rate was reasonable, andif I could receive a room big enough where the bed didn't take up all of the room---solely because some of the staff members did such an outstanding job of making an effort to provide caring service!!

Top Local Tips for Nuremberg

Documentation centre This together with the nearby rally grounds are a must for any traveller.

Don't be there on a Sunday! If you plan to be there for a day, don't be there on a Sunday! A lot of the museums are closed and so are all the stores and a lot of the restaurants.
