Good location (near the underground & bus lines), excellent restaurants and rooms. Easy to arrange transportation to & from airport. It's a bit out of the city center but this is just a few stops away on the underground. Conference rooms were first-rate.

Historical Traveller Reviews of The Westin Grand Muenchen Arabellapark Hotel

Totally lovely hotel!

from aroseinphilly
This hotel was on our Globus tour in Aug., 2005, and it was superb, although the location wasn't too good for sightseeing, the hotel was lovely! Everything modern and "American", huge facility, excellent food for both dinner and breakfasts, nice bar, pleasant staff, exceeded all expectations for a "tour" hotel!! Would go back anytime...would go back to Munich anytime too!! Lovely, walkable city with so much to see!

Showers poor

from PhilipdUk
The showers were very poorly temperature controlled. When set they veered between cool to too hot to stand in. They seemed to cycle through this making showering an unpleasant experience.
There was no wifi internet connectivity. I would not expect this in smaller hotels but seems rather backward at this level..
The setup for business work on laptops is not present. Though there was a desk I had to move this to get at the electrical socket to plug my laptop in.
The care of the rooms was not ideal, during my stay the soap was removed and when I used the teabags they were not replaced.
Overall I was disappointed by this hotel which fails to live up to its standards.

Has it all except the location...

from A TripAdvisor Member
We recently attended a meeting at this hotel. We had an executive level room which was beautifully furnished and convenient. The concierge level "tower room" was quite nice with snacks and a lovely buffet breakfast. We found the staff to be helpful and kind. The hotel resaurant has a nice menu and excellent service. The only drawback to this hotel is the location which is a ten minute subway ride to town. Because of the isolation, it is very difficult to get a feel for Munich. Conclusion: if you have a meeting here, rejoice. If you just want to visit Munich, choose a hotel in town.

Good but not Grand

from HolyBoy
I stayed at this hotel in December 2004. The building is not very nice
but interiors are renovated and quite luxurious.

I booked a Towers level room. The reservation operator adviced me
I can use a separate Towers check-in area to skip eventual queues.
I found this area on the right side of the reception, but unfortunatelly,
nobody was attending it, so I anyway had to go to the "normal" reception
and wait in the queue to check in. The clerk suggested we can process
the check in at the Towers section. I found it a nonsense to move to
another place just to check in but she insisted on it, offering me a
welcome glass of champagne. This outed like another problem as
she found out there is no more champagne at the Towers desk, so at
least they provided me with an 1/2 bottle of champagne to my room as
an excuse.

The room was newly and nice appointed, appearantly designed for a business traveller with lots of working space. Bathroom was large, with huge shower stall but tiny and shallow bathtub, good for a kid maybe.

The Towers lounge is accessible only with a Towers roomkey, I actually don't know why because the selection of free meals and beverages was very limited, the lounge was occupied with families with kids running around so I had one of their dry cakes and rather went away.

There is a business centre downstairs, quite pricey, charging 15 Euro per
hour of internet access, and you have to buy vouchers for it at the reception, then go downstairs and again the same as your voucher expires. Not very convenient.

The spa area is nice, featuring pool, small gym and treatment cabins.
In the room there were no slippers so I asked the housekeeping for a pair,
waited some 20 minutes, called them once again to be told they are "busy".

The location is also not ideal, it's quite far away from the centre,
at least there are always taxis in the front of the hotel. The transfer to the
centre is about 15 Euro each way but the problem are occassional traffic
jams so a the transfer can take some 15 minutes.

A highlight was the breakfast, with the widest selection I have ever
experienced.

Overally, I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a good value
for money, decent accomodation and does not mind being not in the city
centre. However, do not await a real 5 star service and do not book
the Towers rooms, the access to the lounge is not worth the surcharge.

Lovely, Helpful, Convenient Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed two nights at the Arabella Sheraton. It is on one of the subway stops and very convenient from the train station. The hotel is beautiful.
We did not find any restaurants close by but we loved the hotel. We would stay there again anytime.

Great Hotel with some problems

from Diggfrog
Stayed there in Febraury 2005 for the second time. Had an executive room that was much better than last time (not all have renovated bathrooms) and very comfortably furnished. Would recommend either Executive or Club romms since the cheapest rooms seemd rather bleak and small. Hotel has very impressive lobby and conference rooms. The pool is nice and even has a jacuzzi in the middle. The gym is small but good enough for a decent workout. Breakfast is wonderful but somewhat hectic if the hotel is well booked since crowds can form at the huge and very varied buffet. Service is sometimes a bit spotty and not all personnel are friendly. First time I had some problems with a special rate, lost messages, and long waits in the restaurant. The second time a mysterious charge appeared at my bill (it was corrected without a problem). From the outside the hotel is rather ugly and the location is not the best (5 minutes by foot from the next subway) and the surroundings consist of a shopping centre, lots of office towers, the sister Arabella Sheraton hotel, and the upscale Bogenhausen district.
In Total a very nice hotel with some unpleasant service problems - therefore only 3 out of 5.

A Genuine 5 Star Hotel

When you book a hotel on the web, you worry that the hotel you choose, could be a big disappointment. Well, the Arabella Grand Sheraton massively exceeded our expectations. Excellent quality rooms, food and service. Overall, a very luxurious feel. Being a 3 minute walk to the U-Bahn station, means you can so easily get around the city and have access to general Bavaria. It was a treat for my partner, (who is very fussy!), but our 3 days in the Grand Sheraton delighted her.

This is the first time I have ever done a hotel review, but I felt the Arabella Grand Sheraton deserves my highly positive experience to be made public.

Sheraton Arabella is a very good deal for the money

from A TripAdvisor Member
I have stayed there three times in December and each time we really liked the room and the breakfast buffet is outstanding. The staff are polite and correct which is very German. I am surprised a couple of reviewers had a negative experience. We are returning again this year at Xmas. The only problem is that the internet service was cumbersome and expensive. As a starwood platinum member, they should have waived those costs. We used the internet cafe in Munich instead.

Excellent

Lovely hotel a little outside centre of Munich. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Room was excellent with a modern bathroom. The swimming pool area (indoors) was really relaxing especially after a day of sightseeing. Felt really pampered.

Breakfast was buffet style with a great selection. No need for lunch afterwards!

The ubahn is quite close and only a few stops from the city centre. The area around the hotel is lovely and quiet (residential and business). All in all, just excellent, especially for the great rate we got on the starwood website! Would highly recommend it.

Arabella gets an A+!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Beautiful Rooms--Friendly Staff--Great Location--My family stayed at the Arabella Sheraton in June 2004 for3 nights. We thought it was extremely nice. The front desk staff and bellmen were extremely friendly and helpful throughout our stay.

The rooms really stood out. We had two adjoining rooms on the club level. The club level breakfast was wonderful and convenient.

The bathrooms were really beautiful with a glass shower and separate tub and double sink. It was one of the best hotel bathrooms I have ever seen ("German Engineering"). We rented a car from the Sixt rental agency in the hotel. We also used the U Bahn two times. The entrance was located one block from the hotel.

We ate two nights at the Paulaner Biergarten in the hotel. The food was good and the pretzels were outstanding. The service was a little slow one of the two nights.

We would stay there again if we went back to Munich!!

Top Local Tips for Munich

Ludwig Beck Great deptartment store in the heart of Munich dont miss it!

Cafe Glockenspiel - nice food Try this wonderful cafe/restaurant with the most amazing view over the heart of Munich. The food is lovely and the service attentive. It's also relatively inexpensive but was very busy the night we visited.

My favorite Indian restaurant. Try Radha (do a google search) on Elvirastrasse for a divine lunch buffet at an incredible price. This is not a paid endorsement; I eat there every time I am in Munich!
