Just stayed at the Sofitel Tuesday night this weeek, and it was very very good - lovely room, digital temperature control on the very quiet aircon, all very clean, excellent location, good staff, good business computer facilities including good internet and free printer.

Restaurant was great in the evening, with very reasonable prices.

The spa looked great although I didn't get a chance to try it, and friends say that the bar is excellent.

NOTE: If you want a bath in your room, make sure you ask for it when checking in - rooms on the same floor with the same rate differ.

A stylish and quiet hotel with excellent service close to the railway station, making it convenient for Munich airport.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Sofitel Munich Bayerpost Hotel

Brilliant from start to finish

from gemmaroberts84
Absolutely brilliant. Myself and my boyfriend stayed for a long weekend to celebrate our anniversary. A friend had recommended this hotel alot to us and so we decided to go for it and stay here. When we arrived, reception were very helpful as we had arrived early and looked after our bags. When we did arrive at our room we were in for a real treat. Our room overlooked the courtyard area and was peaceful. We had a large king size bed and the room was extremely spacious. The bathroom was very high tech with sliding doors, a glass pane to separate bathroom and bedroom, with a hidden blind within the glass. Breakfast was wonderful (although a bit expensive). Highly recommend the cocktail bar as they were amazing. I would recommend this hotel for business and leisure. 5 star all round!!!

The coolest hotel

from spencal
My husband, two children (ages 11 and 15), and I stayed at the Dorint Sofitel Bayerpost Munchen for 2 nights in mid July, 2006. It is an old post office building and is beautiful from the outside. On the inside, it is beautiful and ultra modern! I must say the rooms were the coolest we have ever stayed in, and we travel alot!
We had requested 2 adjoining, non-smoking rooms. We were given 2 non-smoking rooms that were several rooms down from one another on opposite sides of the hall. Since the rooms were at least close to one another, we were fine with this arrangement.
The rooms were very large and the bathroom was large and luxurious. The rooms were immaculately cleaned. There was a large window above the bathtub that looked out to the bedroom. There were electric blinds on the window if you wanted privacy. There was a sliding glass door that could either provide privacy for the toilet or provide a door for the shower (which was also awesome!) There were also 2 glass sliding doors to close off the entire bathroom, however they kept coming off their track.
The bed was large with two fluffy comforters and, I believe, 5 big fluffy pillows! The bed was very comfortable!
The pool and spa area was also awesome! The pool was unlike any we had ever seen. It was like swimming in a cave! The kids loved it as long as there was no one else in it. We also enjoyed the sauna and the steam room.
We ran across one snooty concierge and the light switches in the room could be confusing. My husband also had difficulty communicating with the bell staff when we wanted our car. Otherwise, our stay there was perfect.
The hotel is a 5-10 minute walk to the main shopping area and there are many restaurants close by.

Great Room and Service

from digithead001
We stayed at the Sofitel Munch for 3 nights and had a great stay. The exterior was an old building but inside, it was modern and funky. The room had terrific lighting, with all the amenities one would expect from a good hotel. The bed was comfortable. What was most unique was the bathroom. It wasn't plush but have a very modern feel to it. There is a sliding glass door but no separation from the shower and toilet except for a glass wall. There is not shower door or curtain. The vanity mirror slides to the side and opens a view of the bathroom to the bed.

We did not eat at the hotel, it is right next to the train station and a 15 minute walk to the main shopping throughfare. We ate at various restaurants in town.

The front desk was outstanding. When our car battery died as we were checking out, one of the staff members contacted the car rental company and suggested that we do some sightseeing and that they will call us when the service truck arrived. When we were called, the car had started but they neded to keep the engine running so they posted as employee to watch the car in the garage while we made our way back to the hotel. That is service!!!

Perfect Service

I stayed at the Dorint Sofitel for 2 nights in a very comfortable room, Hotel staff was extremely professional and the breakfast buffet outstanding. Will definetely go back there.

Fantastic experience at the Dorint Sofitel

from SixtyDays
I rarely give five stars on these hotel reviews, but the Dorint Sofitel definitely did everything right for us. We stayed here for a weekend and were upgraded to a Deluxe room with bath tub on the 7th floor. The building is the former main post office and the combination of traditional exterior and ultra-modern interior is a great combination.

Our room was very stylish, impeccably clean and nicely furnished. The bed was also very comfortable and since the room was well isolated we didn't hear any other noises from inside or outside the hotel. The bathroom had all the mod cons we required and again was extremely stylish with high-quality fixtures and fittings.

We also enjoyed the swimming pool and spa and would recommend it as a fantastic way to relax and chill out. The service provided by the staff was also excellent and all our requests were seen to.

Munich is such a wonderful city I am happy to have found a place like the Dorint Sofitel Bayerpost which makes trips there even more enjoyable.

Absolute style in a perfect location

from CarnarvonBoy
Stayed at the Dorint for a long weekend in Munich. Couldnt fault it apart from having two single beds pushed together to make a double. Aparently you can ask for a true double if you prefer it.

The hotel itself is in a great spot, right outside the Hauptbanhof which is perfect for going anywhere both local and countrywide. We didnt eat at the hotel but did make use of the bar and staff were polite and curteous with a great attitude. We felt important but not sucked up to which is a refreshing change from some 5 star hotels.

The best thing about this hotel is the style. Everything is super cool, the reception is stunning and the recreation facilities are top notch. A pool in a modern cave style with all the mod cons it was adventure for spoilt grown ups.

Price wasnt too bad either, certainly better value than an equivalent UK hotel.
Although it is a busy part of town there was no road noise and it made a great base. As for Munich if you havent been then go, great city, friendly people and a feeling of safety even late at night that is not common in big cities. Oh and the beer gardens, nothing like enjoying a beer with a load of locals just having a lunch break.

Nice but....

from Dedra28
The location of the hotel is great- next door to the train station. The design is gorgeous, and the rooms are very well appointed (although more desk space is needed).
As a business traveler- I found some things that would make me think twice about booking this hotel.
1. The gym- its awfully small (one treadmill) and one rack of free weights, plus a few bike machines. Couldn't get on the one treadmill because it was always in use.
Very nice steam room, pool and sauna.
2. The restaurants- I went to Suzie's inside the hotel, expecting some nice sushi. But the sushi was pretty bad and my colleague got some make your own dish that tasted like crap- plus the service was slow.

Overall nice design hotel (but there are so many of them in Munich) lacking some basic functions

s service has become top notch up from bottom of the barrel!

from Joizee_HD
I had stayed at this hotel a couple of times already due to the proximity to the main train station and the fact that I really like the design. I won't go into the details which everyone already described below. I had simply been disappointed each time due to the service. Checking in, checking out, and in general I found the service at this hotel abominable. The staff were simply arrogant beyond belief! BUT for some reason this has all changed. I hope they are reading this site. This time, checking in was a charm. They upgraded me to one of the junion suites up on on the 8th floor (Room 810). This one was on the side facing the Alps, with the 20 foot windows. It's also the split level room and waking up to this panorama is at true treat. I was down at the bar as well where one used to be ignored on a regular basis. Now, the folks went to great lengths to make my time at the bar simply great. The breakfast staff was super and were willing to fulfill every request. Checking out was the same....great. Maybe I was just lucky but I believe this hotel has taken a turn for the better. Please let it stay this way as I am often in Munich and will become addicted to this place if the service keeps up! See you at the bar! :-)

Wonderful

from sf1943
We stayed in a junior suite on the 8th floor. The elevator lobby has great views of the alps, and our room overlooked the platforms of the central train station (the double paned glass kept virtually all the noise out). The room was split level - a powder room and living room downstairs, and the bedroom and bathroom upstairs. It had floor to ceiling windows (20 feet high) and an electronic shade system. The beds were very comfortable, and the shower was strong. Modern amenities abound, and we were able to get "better than internet" rates by calling reservations and paying in advance. The spa at this hotel is wonderful, and we were glad we made the time each day for a sauna/steamroom/footbath/swim. Reasonably priced massages are readily available. The breakfast is a culinary delight, extensive and delicious, but overpriced. Make sure you are feeling gluttonous before you go. The concierge and staff were friendly and helpful. The only negative experience we had was checking in - our reservation was somehow never booked, and this made for ten minutes of aggravation after a seven hour flight.

If you like the Starwood W ...

from Dolcetto
We drove to Munich from Salzburg during the final days of Oktoberfest, and found this hotel, with its high-tech gadgetry and post-modern decor, to be in marked contrast to the aristocratic Hotel Sacher Salzburg, which made for a very different experience but a most enjoyable one.

For those who have experienced "W" hotels in the United States (we have stayed often in the "W" in Westwood, CA) the Dorint Sofitel will give one the same feeling of plush post-modernism, right down to the bar area with long shelves of esoteric art books, and the cool relaxing lobby in reds and blacks.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful underground spa. The water pool was perfect, as well as dry and steam saunas. Relaxing lounges enable couples to unwind and take a breath in romantic setting.

Concierge service was excellent as well as cleanliness top-notch. The umbrella provided in the closet is helpful in Munich drizzles. Roger Gallet products are the best anywhere!

Restaurant recomendations were good, and the breakfast included in room price was outstanding with a full array of continental and Bavarian fare.

Hotel prices during Oktoberfest are outrageous, and this one, while also expensive, did not "break the bank". Oktoberfest celebration was but a 10 minute walk away. Good walks can be planned from this hotel to exercise off all that Bavarian cuisine.

Top Local Tips for Munich

Hippocampus Tkae the U4 to Arabella Park and leave at Prinzregentenstrasse. Take a short walk up Muhlbauerstrasse and after approx 100 meters you will find an Italian Restaurant with great service and even better food and wines. It is called Hippocampus.

Don't take taxis Munich is such a great city to walk through or you can take the tram. Taxis are overly expensive and I would recommend against using one unless you really have to..

Safety Very safe and beautiful, clean and organized city.
