Not really first class, but good location, great service
from mikestageMinuses: Bad a/c, tiny rooms and bathrooms, no amenities, expensive internet and phone calls
Located literally 500 meters from the train station and very close to the center of town, the location was perfect. It was so easy to get anywhere. The staff of this hotel couldn’t have been nicer. No request was too small and they bent over backwards to accommodate. They were pleasant and helpful and just went a step beyond.
The room, while decorated very nicely, was so small I kept banging into the side of the bed because there was no room to walk around. Storage space was fine, with a closet and plenty of hangars, and the bed was big, but avoid the X02 rooms. They are the smallest and really impossible. The shower and bath area was tiny and hard to maneuver in, and the shower was temperamental with pressure. Sometimes fine, sometimes nonexistent. There were no amenities and only the ever-present squeeze bottle in the shower for body and hair washing. The soap actually did fine.
They had internet for 22 Euros a day, but right across from the train station is an Easy Internet Café where a Euro bought an hour’s time. I made two local calls, and my phone bill was 18 Euro. Avoid the calls, they are ridiculously overpriced.
The A/C was also non-existent. It was hot the first day I was there and the room was not cool at all. When I asked about this, they told me that European A/C is not like in the USA. I thought this was a pretty poor excuse. The room was hot and I was paying for a room that was comfortable. Even when the weather changed and it cooled off outside, it remained hot in my room.
The TV had two English stations, CNN and BBC, but this seems to be the same throughout Germany and Austria and who spends time in the room anyway? The price was very reasonable with the last night free through Expedia. I would not pay a penny over 100 per night USD for this hotel. You can do just as well in the area for a lot less, but it had its nice features.
Excellent Value/Location!

from rootuidGood hotel, enjoyed our stay.
from SBonnellOur room was not huge, nor was its bathroom – but very clean and well kept, and the wood paneling, furniture and 4 poster beds are a nice touch. Breakfast was not included in our reservation, so we cannot comment on that. Staff were pleasant and helpful. We got a good deal on Destina.
Would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Munich.
Great Hotel!!
from A TripAdvisor MemberExcellent location and problem-free stay.
from FarAndAway2006We spent 6 nights at the hotel during our Christmas holidays and enjoyed our stay. Comfortable beds and very clean with the added bonus of a small fridge in our room, my only problem was that our room was not made up until about 4 pm almost every day. The location is so central we often went back and fourth to our room throughout the day. Sometimes we were interrupted while having lunch. Not a major problem but an annoyance nonetheless.
We had the breakfast buffet once. Not bad, but not worth the price. Also, having returned quite late from a day-trip to Innsbruck, we decided to order some room service. Oddly, our meals were quite good and somewhat cheaper than a comparable meal at a restaurant.
Although we weren't excessively impressed with the hotel, our stay was problem-free and as a result we will probably stay here again next time for the location and the worry-free experience.
Great
from unclejamesChosen on Trip Advisor because it was quite high in the recommended list but also cheap, my heart sank a little when I saw the road it was on: a small, scruffy, typically 'near the main railway station' road, with the obligatory adult video store and very cheap supermarket which sells conveniently strong beer for purchasing and drinking outside while swearing at other people or fighting. I've made it sound horrible. Yes, both these things were there, but actually the road was just fine: well lit, with a tram just outside the door, and while clearly not the nicest place in town, certainly not the horriblest either.
A quick walk down the road, and into the hotel: and a surprise. It's really very nice. I was expecting a cheap but cheerful hotel: it's not. It's a really nice, wood-panelled, hotel - a very comfortable room, with a kind of four poster bed, and a bottle of sparkling water, with compliments, awaiting our arrival. The room was warm; my wife found the air-conditioning slightly overpowering in the middle of the night (though I was quite comfortable), and an unusual touch was two duvets on the bed, allowing me to throw myself about the bed without disrupting her duvet!
The breakfast was copious, and not too hideously expensive for hotel prices (at 15 euro each); two nice touches in the lift: a carpet saying 'Have a nice Saturday', replaced with 'Have a nice Sunday' the next morning, and a weather forecast. The bar was functional (though not entirely comfortable). The hotel seemed to have very recently been decorated, and was really comfortable throughout - and the location turned out to be just fine for a quick walk into town - less than fifteen minutes. We'd go again. In fact: we -will- go again.
Tip: for a first-night experience away from the tourists, turn left out of the hotel and walk AWAY from the town centre. At the top of the road, directly ahead of you, is the Lowenbrauhaus - think Hofbrauhaus but without the tourists. Just as old-looking, just as pleasant a location, and rather better value for food.
Oh, and the oft-quoted, um, interesing pay-TV? In most hotels, you get to see a free minute or so of the film, before a caption obliterates most of the picture and asks you to pay. In this hotel, you get to see ten seconds or so of the film, before a caption obliterates only -part- of the picture and asks you to pay. Let's just say that the caption probably gets in the way of the plot. Which is probably a drawback. If there is a plot, of course.
Jan is the King at Kings
from daisycutterA special mention to Jan who was the bar attendant during our stay. Jan is extremely professional but also a genuinely warm and friendly person. He gave us some excellent information on restaurants and other tips for Munich and ensured that our stay was a most enjoyable one. By the time we left he felt like we had known him for years. Thanks again Jan.
I felt like a King in Munich!!
from A TripAdvisor MemberWith the main Train Station less than two short blocks from the hotel, I move around the city for business appointments quickly and with ease. My family loves the convenience of walking to Marienplatz and shopping section.
But what keeps me coming back to the Kings Hotel First Class is that they treat every guest like a true King (even those of us who have a less than royal budget!).
Top Local Tips for Munich
Blue bus We took the blue bus tour around the outside of Munich and through the middle of the city center. It was valid for 24 hours and you get to hop on and off as you like. Well worth it to get a good idea where you want to visit in the city.
neuschwanstein castle we went on the linderhoff/neuschwanstin grayline tour that met at the herties department store opposite the train station. we purchased our tickets from the tour desk along the street in the front of the train station. we were able to use our mastercard there with no extra charge (the hotel wanted to charge for this). BE EARLY for the bus. Many people bought tickets and were turned away at the end as not enough buses had been requested. We were lucky to get on the tour and heard this happens a lot. We would also suggest taking the train to salzburg is the weather is nice. it was 27 Euros for up to 5 people to travel after 9 AM on some sort of special family ticket. The trip was two hours. From the salzburg train station there was a tourist information desk where we received a map and directions for either taking a bus to the old town or walking (we walked as we had been sitting on the train). It was about 20 minutes and just fine!
credit cards vs cash Although places advertise that they take credit cards...Some restaurants will tell you that the computer is down and will not accept it. Take euros if you don't want to be limited about where you choose to eat. Will accept credit cards at stores if you spend $20.00 or more.
