Historical Traveller Reviews of Hotel Villa Angela
Beautiful Hotel, stunning location, should be 5 star
We stayed at the Hotel Angela for one week and fell in love immediately with this hotel. It has charm as it is small and intimate, the staff are the best I have encountered. Grace (the waitress) is the nicest person I have every met and could not have been more helpful. I would say this hotel is really suited for couples as it is sooo romantic but we did see a couple of children. The breakfast is lovely and a whole new experience, everything fresh and homemade. No greasy fry-ups here which I was glad off. If you are looking for a McDonalds or English food in the town, then this is not the town for you as this town breathes class and beauty. The rooms in the hotel were absolutely beautiful and reminded me of a Malmaison type hotel interior. Everything is spotless. The only downside I would say is that the pool opens at 10am which I consider late and closes at 6pm. The bar also closes at 11pm which I consider early but these were minor details. If you are staying here I would not choose room 307 as we did not have a great view from here. It was overgrown albeit with lovely shrubs but our view was very limited. The icing on the cake for us was to meet Jim Kerr on the day we were leaving, what a really nice person and so down to earth. I would definately stay here again without a doubt!
The most spectacular location ever!

we have just returned from a 5 day break in one of the most fantastic hotels we have ever stayed in. From the moment we arrived we were looked after by wonderful staff, amazing sicilian food and the most breathtaking views of Mt Etna from our room. Beautiful beaches were easily reached by shuttle bus (organised happily by reception) fantastic restaurants in the medevial town of Taormina, and Villa Angela is just the place to relax by the fantastic swimming pool which is so peaceful and quiet. Can't wait to go back!
Poor service and attitude of staff
We have just arrived back from a week at Hotel Villa Angela and I was very disappointed with the service and attitude of staff (including the management). It really felt that the hotel operated on the basis of what the staff and management deemed appropriate rather than what the customer wanted. The pool was only open between 10am and 6pm. The bar was closed at 11pm. When I said to the manager that I felt that that was not appropriate for a four star hotel he said that it was usual for four star hotels across the world to close at 11am. I politely explained that Hotel Villa Angela was the only four star hotel that I had stayed at where the bar closed at 11pm. Eventually he agreed to keep it open until midnight.
Space by the pool is limited and I like to have the option of moving between the shade and being in the sun but the pool attendant did not like this.
Attitude of the reception staff was also very poor twice they questioned the fact that we wanted them to book a restaurant in town instead of eating in the hotel.
My final point is that the hotel just has no atmosphere, I was very happy to leave.
Well, what can we say. The villa Angela surpassed all our expectations. We booked a De-Luxe room which had the biggest terrace we have ever had in a hotel and the bedroom was roomy and spotlessly clean with good quality furnishings as was the bathroom.
The views of the bay and Etna were fabulous and all the rooms have this view.
The breakfasts were excellent with a good variety and plentiful coffee and tea.
Salvatore (The Manager) and all the staff went out of their way to make you feel welcome, and nothing was too much trouble, they are attentive but not pushy which is exactly what we want when relaxing.
The pool (again spotlessly clean) was always manned with a lifeguard who also brought you towels and drinks from the bar.
They offer a free shuttle bus to the centre of Taormina which is great, because it is a long way to walk uphill on a full stomach!!! The drivers are great.
Ask Grace to make you a cocktail when you come back at night, it is just the thing to send you to sleep with a smile on your face.
The icing on the cake for us was to meet Jim Kerr, what a great guy.
Thanks Jim for letting us share your little piece of paradise.
All the restaurants we went to were good, but Saracenos' just up the hill from the Hotel is brilliant, Alfio the owner, is a great host and the food is superb, combined with the view makes this restaurant a must
We would never stay in another hotel in Taormina other than Villa Angela
A Stunning hotel
This is without a doubt one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in with the most helpful staff I've ever come across. Nothing is too much trouble and literally everyone went out of their way to make sure that we loved our time there.
The rooms are stunning and they all have the most amazing views of Mt Etna and the coastland down to Catania. The breakfasts are lovely and the hotel provides a free shuttle bus into the centre of town a number of times a day.
This is definitely one hotel to bookmark and I would love to go back for another holiday!

The hotel villa angela is great. The staff is very nice. It is a hotel for singles and couples, not for families with small kids. You only feel that it is very new and a lot of members from the staff still have to learn. As well some things in the rooms still have to be tested. But you always find someone to talk to and they are trying immediately to help you out. It is not cheap, but with the huge terraces, the fantastic breakfast, which is included and the incredible panorama it is worthwhile spending the money. Only the pool is too small and too cold, but perhaps October was not the right time to jump in. The shuttle service is excellent. If you need a paradise to relax for a week with my friend the Etna watching you, go there. And if you are in Taormina don`t miss the partner restaurant of the Chemi family, La Botte. And for a good drink go to the Q lounge bar and the other one next door, where I forgot the name.
Dream views from a dream hotel
We stayed on wonderful week. Breakfast is wonderful. Only minus: staff were not informed of our arrival (in the middle of the night) or departure (also in the middle of the night) and acted very confused.
This hotel is a must if you are looking for a bit of luxury and comfort. The setting was amazing and the staff were excellent, nothing was too much trouble. The hotel was absolutely spotless, you could smell pot pourri and flowers on every floor of the hotel. The breakfast selection was splendid, but they do not offer a hot meal in the evening, but as there are so many good restaurants in the area this wasn't a problem at all. My partner and I have stayed in lots of 5* luxury hotels all over the world and this little gem is one of our favourites. Don't hesitate, book it, it's fabulous. p.s Ask Antonio to direct you to the restaurant above the hotel, you will not be disappointed.
What a wonderful place. Good-sized room, breathtaking views, superb pool and excellent breakfasts. Best of all, though, are the staff – without doubt the best service I've ever come accross. Nothing, I repeat NOTHING is too much trouble. I hope the management reads this and realises how lucky they are to have such fantastic people working in their hotel. Thanks to you all.
The hotel is located slightly away from the centre of the town and further up the hill towards Castle Mola. All the rooms & balconies have fantastic views of both Mount Etna and the Ionian Sea. The service was first class, with nothing too much trouble and they offer a free shuttle bus which transports hotel guests back and forth to the city centre. This is available on request during the day but it only takes 10 - 15 min if you want to walk. Breakfast can be inside or out (again with great views) and there is plenty on offer to suit all tastes. All round an excellent hotel at a reasonable price which I thoroughly recommend - we hope to go back.

Where to eat
I would recommend the restaurant that is 5 minutes walk from the hotel which has great food and stunning views on the terrace - book through hotel to get the best tables.
