Very central, perfect for tourist visitor. Clean decent sized rooms. staff welcoming and good buffet breakfast.

Nice Hotel, Convenient Location

This hotel is a great place to stay in Munich.
We had a room with a double bed and a single bed. The room was huge, extremely clean and very nicely decorated. My parents also had a nice double room but unfortunately the man in the adjoining room was a heavy smoker and that made their room quite smelly.

The breakfasts were also good with a buffet of cereals, breads, rolls, yoghurt, fruit, eggs, hams, cheeses, spreads, juices, and cake.

The hotel has a great location. It is close to the Main Train Station & a walk away from the Marienplatz. The area may have a few strip joints but from my experience this is pretty normal in Germany and it doesn't mean that you are staying in a bad area (I have even seen a strip joint in an airport in Germany).

Nice and cosy

A really pleasant small, cosy Bayerische Haus right in the heart of the city of Munich. 2 minutes walk from the Hauptbahnhof, surrounded by some nice restaurants and bars, but also a couple of strip joints but don't let that put you off. I stayed on business and it suited all my requirements. The road it is situated on can be a bit noisy but it is compensated by the very competitive price and comfort. The rooms with facilities are clean and relaxing, it is not the most chic hotel in the world but for the rate it is very good value. Breakfast is a typical German buffet with meats and cereals. The hotel is situated over 2 floors which is unusual but don't let appearances deceive it is very worthwhile dropping by.
Try the Indian restaurant around the corner by the CA on Bayerische strasse, very chaotic and very good.

Lovely hotel and location

We stayed at Hotel Monaco 27 Nov - 1 Dec 2005. We were very pleased with our choice. The area is not as others have described, bad. It appears to be a working class neighborhood. I have walked through worse in my own town. We never felt as though safety was an issue. The hotel is more like a B&B. It is very cozy and warm. The breakfast was a cold buffet, served in the most pleasant breakfast room. I peeked into the breakfast room when we arrived, while waiting for housekeeping to finish our room. I knew then we had made the right choice. It was so pretty. The staff is beyond lovely. We purchased perishable food from the food hall at Hertie's ( just 2 blocks away ),& they were more than happy to refridgerate the food for us. We can not wait to return to Hotel Monaco and Munich. By the way the location could not be better for visiting every sight, and it is only a 15 minute walk to the Oktoberfest or Marienplatz. Go, enjoy yourself. You will not be disappointed.

Flower Power!

We arrived at the hotel quite late at night and i did feel a bit worried as it wasnt in the best area and the hotel did look a bit dodgy from the outside.

I was however pleasantly surprised. The staff were so friendly and the room was HUGE! There was a bit of a flower and cherub theme going on though, even down to the staff wearing flowers round their necks but if you can get over that then you will realise it is one of the best value hotels in Munich.

The location is great.It is literally a 5 minute walk from the Train station and a 10-15 minute walk to the main square. The breakfast is adequate and was included in our bargain price. The staff even threw in a free phone call back to Ireland which was very nice.

The only criticism i would have would be that there was no safety despoit box and we were asked to leave the key at reception every time we went out which i didnt feel comfortable with.

Near Central Station and easy to get around the city

We stayed in this 3* hotel in May 2005 for a week. It is situated on a fairly busy road, is small, fairly basic, but clean...not sure it should have 3*'s though....but it is very convenient for getting around the city. ..just a few mins walk from the central station.
We booked a double bedded room but got twin beds...it didn't bother us and we didn't ask to be moved, but I am sure they would have accomodated a move should we have wanted one...The bed's we had however were not comfortable and a week in them was more than enough, although the linen was spotlessly clean. The bathroom was good size and there was always plenty of very hot water. Breakfast was very good....a buffet style layout with almost everything you could ever want..very comprehensive....There was no other resturant or bar on the premises but there are many withing a few hundred yards of the hotel.
Late at night / early hours of the morning the area becomes a tad noisy, especially if you have a room facing the road. I didn't see any air conditioning, so in summer it could be quite noisy with the windows open at night. The staff are good. There is no parking for guests. Probably slightly over-priced for quality, but good for convenience. I would return there...but only if the beds were better.

Loved the Monaco!

In March 2005, a group of 19 of us (including adults, college-aged students, and three children) stayed at Hotel Monaco on a university study trip. From our initial email contacts, the staff seemed very warm, and when we arrived, that feeling was confirmed by the phenomenal owner Christine Sevdas and her staff. The hotel is charming, immaculate, and welcoming. The concern for us was overwhelming. The location is outstanding--just a short walk to the main train station. I have recommended this hotel to others on their way to Munich, and I look forward to staying at Hotel Monaco in the future!

Big surprise

We have been several times at an other hotel in the central station area in Munich and expected this hotel with only two stars to be less, but that wasn't true! A spacious room, a good breakfast and a friendly staff.
If you don't want to pay a lot and want to be in a central place in town (only 5 minutes walk to the pedestrian area in the centre, a few mn iutes from the "Hauptbahnhof") we can recommend this hotel!

Great hotel - Would stay here again

This is a great budget hotel. I stayed here for new years. The staff were very nice and friendly. The rooms are small, although I thought the bathroom was large for europe. There is a nice big hairdryer in the room, better than almost all the others I have seen in europe. The hotel is quiet. There are some strip clubs near the hotel, but no weirdos outside them. I felt safe the entire time I was walking to and from the hotel. Its about 1 block from the main train station / subway lines. Very easy to get to. The room was always well cleaned. There is a laundry about 2 blocks away; 4 euro wash 3 euro dry. Hot water in the shower. There is a breakfast but I didnt have any (to many beers). I would stay here again.

Hotel Monaco! What luck!

I'll try to keep this short. We arrived(2 parents,2 teens) in Munich mid-June 2004. We wandered from the train station for about 1/2 hour trying to find Hotel Deutches Theater, where we had reservations for 2 nights. Finally found Hotel Deutches only to be told that they had overbooked and we could not check in until the following day!But, they had made arrangements for us at Hotel Monaco, a couple of blocks away for the same price. Okay. Wandered down the street in search of Hotel Monaco, had to walk by several sex shops(we were numb by now) to find it. Finally found it, went up to the fifth floor for check in, walked in our room and WOW!!! Super nice! We had a room with 1 double bed and two twin beds. HUGE! Great decor, fresh and Springy feelings. Hardwood floors, nice new pine log type furniture and lots of windows. The bathroom was nice and everything was very clean.
The staff at the front desk informed us that we could stay there both nights if we wanted. We went and checked out Hotel Deutches Theater and hands down decided to stay at the Monaco. They even freshened our room the next day while we were out (not my normal European hotel experience). The owner Christine was so nice and friendly as was everyone who worked there that we met.
We paid 129 Euros for the Quad per night and that included breakfast in a lovely breakfast room.
It was only a five minute walk to the train station and five minutes to the city centre.
We will definately stay here again! Don't let the area or the outside scare you. We were so grateful for the mixup at the Deutches that allowed us to find this gem!

Stay somewhere else

This was our only disappointing stay in Europe. There is no free parking, even though I had specifically asked and been told there was.
Our non-smoking room was down the hall from the front desk, where the clerk smoked all night and you could both smell and see the smoke coming in under the door. There was so much noise in the street below (strip club down the block) that we got almost no sleep. The room was okay but I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Top Local Tips for Munich

Fussen and Neuschwanstein If in munich, definately take a day trip (at least) to Fussen in southern Bavaria. It's only 2 hours by train, and it's beautiful, surrounded by forest and mountains. Most importantly, visit Schwangau just next to Fussen, and see Schloss (castle) Neuschwanstein, the most amazing thing I've seen!

walking in munich Everything is fairly close and within walking distance of the main square. Check out the food market to the south of the square, the Residenz north of the square, and the clock tower in the main square. Easy to use trolley and underground.
