It is a good for a short visit
I visit Munich 2x yearly and stay at one of my favorite hotels but this visit they were sold out. I found Hotel Herzog on the net and read reviews before booking. I found the photos to be misleading. The hotel needs some updating. When I checked in the guy at the desk, was not very friendly. I was in Room 103 which is front and it is noisy most of the time. The park across the street attracts the drunks and fights break out. The location of the hotel is great! Breakfast was good but I have had better in outher german hotels. Two very positive thoughts were: 1. The woman that worked in the mornings (I dont' recall her name) but she was Blonde mid-20s; very helpful an very friendly and also the dining room attendant in the mornings.

Terrible.....
We have been to MANY hotels in Germany in the many years that we have lived here. This hotel was our WORST experience, and I would not recommend it to anyone. The room was dirty.... mildew in the bathtub, and the hairdryer provided was melted through and burnt in several areas. Not at all safe!! 3 of the 4 fold out sofas in the room were broken to the point where they could not be used at all. They consider wash clothes a "first class" item, and they are not provided. They were rude, and in some instances hostile. We wound up cutting our trip short because it was so bad. There are MANY other wonderful hotels out there. Don't let this one ruin your trip like it did ours!!
Don't expect an American hotel with large lobbies and glitz. Do get an unmatched experience. The staff was gracious and kind, a word I seldom use anymore. They met every need but were unobtrusive. From a pleasant European breakfast to all the directions and instructions we needed, to a 24-hour front desk. The rooms were spotless and comfortable. Windows that open onto the quiet street were a real treat. The location was perfect, a block from the underground station and a short ride to Marienplatz, or a liesurely stroll to the Marienplatz through quaint, colorful streets. Several restaurants within two blocks, a cafe across the street. The attached restaurant, the Tannenbaum, had a similarly gracious and kind staff working through a language problem with finess, wonderful Bavarian food and a complimentary schnapps. A real hidden gem.
