I always stay at the Hotel Bristol when I come to Zurich, which is usually every year. The staff is courteous, helpful, knowledgeable about the city, and fluent in many languages. They often go out of their way to be helpful - once they helped me set up my laptop computer with the appropriate power plug transformer. The location is perfect, the price is right. I have recommended it to all of my friends.

We stayed at this hotel for a couple days before my daughter's wedding at a ranch outside Steamboat. It is a perfectly nice hotel if a bit small and Spartan. The location is wonderful - right in the downtown where one can walk everywhere. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The room was clean but bed took up most of room and bath was clean but small. Price was right. So while it is not the usual kind of hotel we stay in, I preferred it to the fancier Grand Hotel which is a distance from town and more like a hotel.

Top Local Tips for Munich

3 day travel card You can get a three day partner travel card at the MVV desk at the airport and this will cover travel on trams and Ubahn in the central zones for up to five adults (2 kids under 14 count as one adult) for three days, just punch the card in the machine on the platform to validate it at the beginning of your trip. This is cost efficient and easy. Also as a sight seeing guide to the city you could do worse than just hop on a tram to get your bearings and see the city from a warm and pleasant seat.

where to eat in Munich! Found an excellent restaurant on Marienplatz called DONSIL. Excellent value for money, most dishes cost 7,65 euros!! :-) You should visit Hofbrauhaus as well, quite touristic crowded and noisy but worth going once! Bottled water is really expensive! I do not recommend the "Ja!" bottled water!

Days out of Munich Had 2 excellent day trips out while staying in Munich. A trip to Nuremburg takes just an hour on the ICE train and the city is lovely with its restored castle and other buildings. Well worth a visit. Also got the train to Prien am Chiemsee (just over an hour) to see the palace of Ludwig I on the island in the lake. Great day out, lovely scenery around the lake.
