Historical Traveller Reviews of Dorint Novotel München City Hotel

Perfect for travelers with a car

from theseatsaretooclose
The Holiday Inn seems like it was recently renovated, since the room was spotless and all the bathroom fixtures and furniture were in great shape. The shower had fantastic water pressure and equally good temperature control. (The water pressure must be a Munich thing. On a previous visit I stayed at the Mandarin Oriental and nearly drowned in their shower. It had so much water pressure from several nozzle it was unreal)
We were lucky enough to get a non-smoking room on the 7th floor with a view of the city. The room was quiet and the curtains provided a solid level of darkness for sleeping in. The individual comforters that are so common in central europe were also a nice touch, but only one pillow per person is a little annoying.
The TV had a good selection of channels, although CNN as usual was the only English choice. Although you can buy some movies in English. It was quite hot during our stay and the A/C worked great. The location, while outside the historic city center is a pretty easy 12-15 minute walk to Im Tal and the pedestrian zone right down the street at the hotels corner.
More convenient for us though was the fact that they had underground self parking at 14 euros a night (no time consuming and expensive dealings with parking attendants) and even better a gas station right next door. So you can fill up before setting out for the day to see the castles or just to drive fast on the autobahn.

Cool place--emphasis on cool

from deutschmark
A very nice, well-appointed hotel, the biggest positive of which was air-conditioning! Believe me, after two weeks without it during a swealtering June, it was great to come here and bask in some cool air. On the minus side, the in-room internet service didn't work while we were there, and I found the minibar and especially the breakfast (17.50 euros!) outrageously overpriced. Take advantage of the shopping center underneath the hotel to stock up on sodas, beer and snacks.

Great place to stay!

from torero94
Great value if booked in advance. Nicely renovated hotel- I would have thought it was a new building!
Not really central, but within walking distance to English Gardens and Marienplatz. Subway station is located downstairs, so transportation to/from airport or Train station (or anywhere else in the city) is very easy. Also downstairs is a small shopping area with food, bars, and some markets and bakeries.
Rooms are clean and have reasonable space. Not much of a city view from the rooms, but I wasn't expecting any.
Didn't eat there, but had drinks in the lobby, which were very expensive!
Regardless, I would absolutely stay there again.

Our favorite hotel! Relaxing and well located.

Excellent hotel. Great staff, restaurant, well located and clean. Our favorite hotel on a 2 week tour of Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Hungary. Really great restaurant also located just around the corner - Wirtshaus Kuchleverzelichnis. There is a mall under the hotel. Some of the stores are bakeries, clothing and shoe stores, excellent grocery store and a few more restaurants - one is an American Subway sandwich shop. Public transportation is also reached by passing through this mall from the hotel lobby. Brief walks to many places of interest in the city.

A Great Value

from Pleased_Family
The Holiday Inn City Center is really a great value. The location is fantastic a short walk from the pedestrian area and with the subway station leading right into the hotel (there is also a small shopping plaza underneath and next door). The rooms have been refurbished and are very nice and comfortable. The breakfast is lavish. Comparable hotels near the city center would be much more. Very friendly and helpful staff. Definitely worth the stay.

BTW - if you need an extra bed (for 3 persons in the room) you need to call the hotel directly. The Holiday Inn central or online reservations could not handle it.

Very Good Holiday Inn

from Itchy_English_Feet
I stayed in the Holiday Inn Munich City Centre in March 2006 while in Munich for business. The location was adequate - about a 15 minute walk from the Marienplatz (or the centre of the city), but located right next to the S-bahn trains which would bring you all over the city.

The hotel itself was definitely above average standard for a Holiday Inn. Apparently the hotel had just been re-decorated, and it showed. The foyer was nice and spacious, with plenty of seating. The staff on the reception desk were extremely friendly.

The rooms themselves were spacious, with all modern conveniences. All rooms included tea & coffee, which is always welcome. There were nice touches, such as a choice of pillows (very useful for those with allergies!).

The breakfast was excellent - a great choice of cereals, fruits, breads, cheeses, meats, juices, hot food etc.

Overall I would recommend this hotel. It's not 5 star, but it's definitely extremely comfortable, welcoming and well-located.

The nicest Holiday Inn I have ever stayed in

from KyleWeeks
I stayed here after the Novetel screwed up my reservation. I lucked into staying at a much nicer place. Although they are still in the process of remodelling, the rooms are very nice and the location is great.

Good Location; Good Place to Stay

from Capital Culture
Very easy access by train from the airport; connects through an indoor tunnel.
The renovation was nearly complete, and I had a lovely room that was maintained to a very high degree of cleanliness while I was there.
The staff was friendly and efficient.
There are lots of choice for eating the area; I highly recommend a stroll across the street to Gast, for an unusual format of meals prepared in various stations in the dining area as you order them. Also a bargain.
Easy walk into city center, even though it's not in the center itself.
If you find a good price on a room here, it's a no-brainer. Choose this hotel in Munich.

Remodeled rooms and great location

from TN_Paul
Recommend highly. Great location with train in lower level - never go outside. Be sure to get a remodeled room/floor. Restaurant was opened with great variety and quality. Pool still closed. Personnel very helpful.

Nothing bad to say about this hotel at all

from rootuid
This hotel has a perfect location 15 mins walk from MarienPlatz. Paid 112 Euro for a double room in July. This is quite a reasonable if not a cheap rate for Munich in the summer. The room was perfect, no complaints at all. No noise from the refurbishment project. Rooms are nice also.

Top Local Tips for Munich

Look around If you are on a budget, look around for restaurants outside the tourist areas. These "Tourist Restaurants" are overpriced

The Hamptons of Germany Very upscale vacation destination. Reminded me of Madison Avenue, NY. Not much to do for the kids.

Using the underground The underground is amazingly clean and quick. The tickets seem to be on an honesty system where you are supposed to scan them on you way in but nobody seemed to. Never seemed to be busy, but guess it could be at rush-hour
