East is amazing If you want a really amazing meal in a stunning, stylish location you must try East (it's inside the East Hotel). The food is mostly asian with some european twists and the dining room is huge, with lots of interesting alcoves and the main area with 30 metres plus from floor to ceiling! Try the unusual selection of sushi, including the incredible tempura halibut!

Check out the Reeperbahn West of the centre is an area called the Reeperbahn. It's sleezy, sparkly and excessive. I was travelling with my sister, and neither of us were looking for sex or prostitutes, but we thought it was quite interesting nonetheless. Hamburg is a port town, and this is where a lot of 'visitors' unleash. Sex shops, sex shows, drinking a-plenty. Particularly interesting was the Herbertstrasse: this gated of area is for men over the age of 18 only; the gates keep out women and children, and behind them is a small, Amsterdam-style red-light district with women opening their windows to solicit customers. I checked it out because the idea of a man-only street seemed odd. The women are pushy, as are the women who solicit on all the street-corners. But if you keep your wits about you, it's more interesting than scary.
