Very well located hotel with impressive facilities in the style of an older grand hotel frequented by luminaries past such as Peter Ustinov. Our stay was an enjoyable experience with the room upto a good standard to include a plasma screen TV much to the delight of younger members of the family. Location for the impressive cathedral and the wonderful Christmas market could not be better both almost literally on the doorstep of the hotel. Not the cheapest depending on your budget but overall a pleasant and memorable experience.

Pretty nice (but stinky)

Stayed in that hotel a couple of days in April 2006. Great location, right next to the Dom. The rooms were clean and very well maintained. Staff was friendly and responsive to requests.
However, the lobby was - most of the time - full of tobacco smoke. The restaurant didn't even have a non-smoking section. Having breakfast in a smoky (=stinky) restaurant is clearly no fun. If you smoke or if you don't mind staying/eating in stinky places, this is the right place to go. For everybody else: check out alternatives!

The location is amazing, you are literally on the Cathederals door step, the hotel is classy but not intimidating, Our room was lovely and the bathroom was amazing, huge bath and shower cubicle - big enough for 2 so we did! and a view of the cathedral whilst lying in the bath - perfect. Very good breakfast, expensive valet parking which was very welcome as we arrived well after midnight and was too tired to try and find an alternative parking option which would have been much cheaper. Expensive but they do have deals so choose your time and take advantage of staying in luxury in what is a lovely city.

Divine location, perfect room

We stayed at the Dom hotel for only one night of our two week trip to Europe last August (2005) and I was delighted. The room was priced lower than is currently being shown on this site (check the Meridien site directly perhaps?) and was worth every penny. My husband enjoyed the hotel's Peter Ustinov Bar and the overall location could not be beat. We had to wait about 15 minutes for our room at check-in but otherwise nothing negative to say.

Bad service - moved out!

We arrived at the Dom Hotel in December, they had allowed awkward guests who were refusing to leave to stay and therefore us and about 6 other couples were moved out to another hotel, quite a way away in a very different location. It was handled very badly and still is being handled badly by the management. It is a lovely hotel in a great position - but make sure you actually have the room you booked when you arrive at the hotel!!!!

Great hotel and central location

We have just returned from celebrating our ruby wedding anniversary, staying at the Dom Hotel, Cologne, great service, excellent breakfast, friendly staff. The hotel is situated on the same plaza as the famous cathedral on one side, beer kellers on the other side and main shopping street at the back you don't even have to cross a road to the main railway station, which services all of Europe. The Rhine river is a gently stroll away where there are many bars and restaurants,

Cologne airport is approximate 15minutes ride in a taxi, we travelled by Easy Jet from Liverpool, would recommend this trip for anyone wanting a short city break.

Loved the Dom

We stayed that the Dom Hotel for a week. It was fabulous beyond words. I would highly recommed it to anyone, and I would definately return. The staff was outstanding and made me want to seek out other Le Meridian Hotels in other places.

Great Position

Excellent positon on the Dom Platz in the heart of Cologne and within easy walking distance of the main station (despite the current construction in that area).
Hotel rooms are relatively large and have everything a traveler needs. Beds are comfortable. Bathrooms are excellent.
The staff are friendly and eager to help. Our small problem with our room's aircon was quickly dealt with and we were moved with minor disruption.
The rooms are well soundproofed and we had no problems with the cathedral bells.
And the outdoor cafe is great for a coffee and cake while doing some people watching.
The hotel only a short walk around the corner to one of Cologne's great pubs, Frueh as well as the main shopping street, the Hohestrasse. The Altstadt is only a few blocks away.
The Dom Hotel is a little pricey but excellent value.

True Five star hotel

The Dom Hotel, a Meridien Property, is an old world beauty. Rooms have been recently renovated and are lovely. Our room faced a charming courtyard and had a huge walk-in closet (hard to find even in the best hotels and great for those of us who travel with six or seven pieces of luggage). Staff are very friendly and accomodating. The hotel is an easy walk from train station, even with multiple bags. Additionally, the hotel is located right next to a host of museums, shopping, and the breathtaking gothic cathedral. Also, the Rhine is just a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel. I have traveled extensively throughout Europe and always enjoy my stay at the Dom Hotel in Cologne. Highly recommend!

Expensive but worth it

Stayed for three nights with our one year old son. Staff very helpful. The room was large with great views, and the bells didn't bother us (or him). The location is terrific, and ideal if you're travelling with a toddler, as it's easy to go back for naps and snacks. Our only problem is that our son is developing a taste for smart hotels, especially ones that give him a teddy bear !

Great Location

This is a lovely hotel, right in the heart of Cologne next to the cathedral and a stones throw from the main train station. Despite being warned about the noise of the bells throughout the night, we slept very well in our very comfortable room. Our room was a reasonable size, flat screen TV and was nicely decorated.

We didn't eat in the restaurant but did enjoy the hotel bar which had a good atmosphere and service. It was a favourite haunt of Peter Ustinov and is now named after him.
