Shanti , An der Weide, 0421 364 96 80 We noticed this restaurant, the Shanti , on the An der Weide, as we were walking to our hotel and having eaten there on our first night we returned because of the quality of the food. Mr Kamram Ahmed and his brother run the Restaurant. The brothers are from Lahore in Pakistan and if their mother taught them to cook then she did a good job! We have eaten in very good Indian restaurants in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Bradford and elsewhere in the UK. Most curry eaters have their favourite restaurant and even favourite region. I have heard people boast of the curries made in their home area. I understand that. As a Glaswegian, I am a great fan of our “Mother India”. I have eaten there since it opened in the early 90s. I like “The Far Pavilions” in Edinburgh too. Both produce wonderful food. The Shanti has fantastic food in Bremen. The Chicken Pakora is outstanding. It comes without a dip as the spices are in the coating on the chicken. Our main courses were excellent too. Over two nights we had Chilli Chicken, Chicken Biryani, Chicken Bhoona and Beef Jalfrezie. The prices of Main dishes include rice and naan bread so we were well fed at a reasonable price. As we write, a Chicken Bhoona with accompaniments is 11 Euro. Portion size was big and there was too much to finish. We were given free ice cream and a free syrupy drink at the end of our meals. Both were very nice and most welcome! The restaurant does special lunchtimes offerings such as “all you can eat” and buffets. We did not try these but we gathered from talking to staff that these are popular with the British residents of Bremen. It does not surprise us. When you are in Bremen, give the Shanti a try. You will not regret it. .
