Excellent value, great location

We booked this hotel having read reviews on tripadvisor and have to say that they were spot on. We spent 4 days here and would have been very happy to stay longer. A little soulless from the outside, the hotel was actually a real gem. Decent sized rooms, spotlessly clean and serviced every day; fantastic bathrooms with a full-sized bath and incorporated shower; very good breakfast (included in the price) with a stunning view over Berlin rooftops; helpful staff all fluent in English; excellent tariffs. What's more, you can actually open the windows for fresh air. We loved the individual names given to the rooms based on operas and the highly individual posters in the rooms thereof.
Outside you are 1 minute away from bus stops and a taxi rank and opposite is a wonderful restaurant/cafe. Excellent coffee and cakes to be had!

Superb breakfast view

Ok, I'm a little biased because Berlin in the snow in mid-February is inspiring, but this was a superbly located hotel, with great facilities and very helpful staff (whose English is far better than mein Deutsche). My girlfriend pointed out that were it slightly further up the Ku'damm, by only about 75 metres, it would be more expensive to reflect the slight-change in area, so it really is a bargain. I've never been in a hotel where for such little outlay you have a MASSIVE bath in a marble bathroom, set in a large, well laid-out clean and comfortable room.

My top tips would be to have the (very ample buffet) breakfast there, whilst enjoying the view from the 6th floor -fruhstuck even runs until 10, so you can still have a bit of a lie-in; and to get a City/ Welcome card, as the hotel is very close to stations for all the forms of transport (except trams, being located in the West), thereby utilising its much raved about location. We would eagerly use it again.

We stayed here for 3 nights and it is difficult to fault the hotel. Modern, clean, convenient for u Bahn and bus stops and free internet in the lobby so you can read your emails. Ok there is some traffic noise but the double glazing keeps it out. Would definitely recommend it

Very Central, Great Value

As other reviewers have said, dont be put off by the outside or the lobby of the hotel as the rooms are very good, we were lucky enough to have a room that had a bath with shower,because I dont think all have, the room was a good and size very clean, most rooms have a pleasant view overlooking a busy square but due to very good double glazing there is very little noise. My only small complaint would be that there was no hairdryer as stated, one bedside light didnt work and the only toiletries were shower gel. The rooftop restaurant also with good outlook served a breakfast that couldnt be faulted. So all in all for a 3* hotel at a reasonable price,this is a very good central place to stay. The hotel was easy to get to from Schonfield Airport, caught the express train to the Zoo station 2 Euros,and because we arrived in the evening caught a taxi to the hotel 5 Euros, but you can easily catch a bus or on our return we walked to the station about 20 minutes. Public transport in Berlin is very good and cheap so it is easy to get to main points of interest from the hotel. As advised by another reviwer if your looking for a very good resteraunt within a 100 mts of the hotel,try the Bovril on the main shopping street next to the Burberry shop.

I managed to get a double room at this hotel for 4 nights at about £27 per night. I was expecting it to be a little scetchy, so i prepared for the worst. However it was absolutly brilliant, excellent location, breakfast was fab and the staff were all very friendly. The rooms were well sized and the bathroom featured a full sized bath/shower combi - making it very nice to share! Highly recommend this hotel!

Great Hotel

Just spent Friday to Sunday at this hotel, cannot fault it, rooms are excellent, breakfast was brilliant, reception staff cannot do enough to help, bus stop 50metres, tube 3 mins walk, taxi rank 60metres. If you are thinking of a cheap weekend away this is the place. Even taxi ride to Tegel is only 15 euro.

Just got back from a birthday break there,and would go back again.Excellent location,large clean & warm room,bright breakfast room,with a good choice for breakfast.Had taken a hairdryer,info from previous write ups,& would mention that the bar in reception is just useful for meeting point/nightcap, not much atmosphere.
Plenty of restaurants around,but one worth special note just in the next block,BOVRIL, Excellent food and service.I emailed the hotel prior,and they made reservations at a couple of places for us.
Trans from airport simple,everything ran to time.Will go again in summer -6,but had a great birthday

Great location, good place to explore Berlin

The hotel is very well situated just a couple of bus stops from the main west Berlin Zoologischer Garten station. As the hotel is in the west of the city, Tegel Airport is near at hand, but I travelled from Schonefeld taking the Airport Express train from the Airport to Zoo station, then took one of the frequent buses along Kurfurstendamm (eg 109 or 110), getting off at Olivaer Platz.

The hotel doesn't look exciting from the outside, but everything seemed brand new and very smart inside. My room had a good view over the nearby designer shops, but avoided the traffic noise through good glazing and air conditioning. There is a good choice at breakfast from the continental buffet on the top floor glass-sided restaurant which is nicely designed to give good views over Kurfurstendamm.

There aren't many facilities in the room (a safe, but no coffee/tea making facilities), but there is a coffee vending machine and free internet access in the reception. Also, it looks like they have wi-fi hotspot access from the brochures in the rooms.

Highly recommended as a value-for-money base to explore Berlin.

Excellent value for money

My friend and I stayed here whilst Christmas shopping in early december, the room was warm and comfortable, spotlessly clean, towels changed daily, and double glazing stopped most traffic noise. The breakfast was good, (buffet style) and staff helpful and informative. The bus from Tegel airport costs 2 euros and stops outside hotel at 'oliviar platz' Hotel is central, near shops and tourist buses and restaurants within easy walking distance. We would stay here again.

Ideal Location

We spent a week at this hotel Nov/Dec 2004 and found it to be in a great location for shops, buses all access to central Berlin. It was great value for money and very clean. The continental breakfast was ideal with a good variety. Staff were very helpful without being intrusive.
Free internet access in the lobby was an unexpected bonus.
The only downside was that there was no hairdryer or iron in the room but we always travel prepared so this wasnt a problem for us. We also thought a small fridge and teamaking facility in the room would have been a nice touch but with all the amenities available within walking distance this didnt prove a great problem. ( Have been in 4* hotel without this)
We are a couple in our fifties. We would definitely go back and would recommend this hotel for a short break.

There is a bus direct from the airport but we used taxis - about 12 euros and there is a rank right outside the hotel as well as buses to various locations.

Top Local Tips for Berlin

Airport to Hotel Before you leave the airport purchase a BVG WelcomeCard from the desk (exit for buses signposted). Get the bus 109 and disembark at Olivaerplatz .. you are right outside the Hotel !!

Arrange your city tour by yourself Berlin is a very well organized city for transportation (U-Bahn, S-Bahn, Bus, Tram). Having a good map you can arrange all the transfers by yourself, without using the taxi.

Story of Berlin Museum The Story of Berlin Museum on the Ku'damm is extremely interesting and well presented. The entry also gives you access to a tour of the nuclear bunker underneath the shopping centre. This is fascinating and slightly scary about what was being put in place in the 1970s with the threat of nuclear war.
