Excellent value for money

I stayed in this hotel with my husband and two teenage boys. Our room was really huge, you could have fitted 4 average rooms in it, and we had a toilet, shower room and tiny kitchen. The boys' room was of average size but had a bigger bathroom. Everything was spotless and the staff were all very helpful with one exception on reception. This hotel is excellent value for money and in a good area for restaurants. The u-bahn is close by too. No complaints at all.
A gem of a bargain!

This is what a budget hotel should be like.
The hotel is situated in east Berlin off a main street but less than 5 minutes walk from the nearest U-Bahn station.
We arrived to be shown to a room in the main block which was fine but obviously a smoking room. When we said we had booked a non-smoking room, we were moved with no fuss at all to a non-smoking room in the annex. This room was very spacious indeed and scrupulously clean throughout. While there was no air-conditioning, it was quite airy.
Breakfast is a simple buffet and perfectly adequate, though with a lack of hot items.
The area the hotel is in appears to be pretty up-and-coming and even a little trendy, with a few quaint shops and bars and restaurants within walking distance (including an excellent Chinese one), and these were better value than those elsewhere in the city.
There is obviously a lot to in Berlin - in the hot weather we enjoyed, seeing the city by boat was a joy - and if returning, we would look to stay here again. An excellent spot.

Great Spot

For a 3 star property this place was excellent value. The hotel was clean, staff helpful and location was perfect. Only a 2 minute walk to the U-Bahn and a 15-20 minute walk to a fantastic dining and coktail bar area. We spent 7 weeks travelling overland through China, Mongolia and Russia to Europe - the area close to this hotel was the best for great food, good service and value for money. We highly recommend this hotel.
Good Budget Hotel

When getting off the U-Bahn at Samaritastrasse I wondered what I had let myself in for because the area appears run down with grafitti everywhere and winos on the corner. But actually the area is safer than it looks with no menacing gangs hanging around. Any youths I did see would politely make way for me.
The hotel itself is very nice with friendly staff, a clean room and an excellent buffet breakfast. Most important for me was the fact that the walls were not paper thin like in many four star hotels I have stayed in, ensuring a good nights sleep. One thing to mention is that the hotel is situated in a working class area away from the usual tourist haunts which means that many of the locals cannot speak English fluently, if at all. It helps if you have at least a smattering of German.
I agree with the previous reviewer that a Welcome Card is a good buy. A 48 hour pass now costs 16 euros but it is still good value. Make sure you validate your ticket in the machine where you see "Entwerfen". There are big fines for not doing so and they check up - I was asked to show my ticket by ununiformed staff on the way to Alexanderplatz.
In conclusion, this hotel is a great base for exploring Berlin, especially as it is within easy travelling distance from the attractions in the Mitte area. I can throughly recommend it to fellow travellers.

Great hotel, great city

We recently stayed at the Hotel Agon and would recommend to anyone thinking of staying. Staff were helpful and friendly, rooms basic but clean and sufficient for any tourist, breakfast plentiful and tasty!
The hotel is situated 100m from Samariter Strasse u bahn station which is literally 5 minutes from Alexanderplatz, so location is great. Although the area is a bit daunting at first, once you get used to the fact that there is a lot of graffitti everywhere in Berlin, it does not seem so bad.
There is a small shopping mall on Frankfurter Allee which contains several restaurants open until very late. We would highly recommend the Sala Thai, the food was excellent and the surroundings superb.
If you are going to be sightseeing, get a 48 hour (or longer) pass for the public transport, they are 14 euros but allow you unlimited use of all public transport, and are very good value.

what a lovely clean, bright hotel. We were suprised as to how new it was.
Rooms are clean and spacious, you don't even hear the neighbours!
Breakfast was great, lots of choice and a buffet style to boot.
Right next to the u-bahn at samariter strasse. Try Sandos for an evening meal great food, nice and close.
Would definatly recommend it to friends.

A Great Place To Stay

We booked 2 rooms at the above hotel and what a great place it is to stay and explore Berlin. The hotel is easily accessible by train from the airport and it is also easy to get around Berlin from here. The hotel itself is modern and new with spotless rooms and a great breakfast buffet. The bar is 24 hrs and the staff are always most helpful and cheerful. Would highly reccomend a stay at the Frankfurter Allee and we will definitely be going back.

This is a little gem of a place. It was cheap, the room was huge and comfortable, in a good location with great little restaurants and bars dotted around nearby and the staff could not have been nicer. We had a great stay over the three days we were there and couldn't recommend it higher.
A Little gem

This hotel hidden away is a really good place to stop. It is very close to the U Bahn and within walking distance of many restaurants. The only downside is the area that it is in which apperas a litlle rough, but once you get on to the main road there are no issues (saying that there were no issues at all so perhaps I'm being a little unfair about the area- it just looks a bit rough with all the grafitti). Breakfast is good and the staff are definitely helpful. Don't make the mistake which we did hich was to go to the reception to say ther was no bathroom. He had to show me a plan of the room which showed it was hidden behind the door!

We had a great time. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The room was good. The breakfast was good. We enjoyed our meals locally. The UBahn was literally 2 minutes away. We will be returning.
Top Local Tips for Berlin
The model for everywhere else We couldn't believe how easy to use the public transport system was. We were never more than five minutes easy walking from a metro station and it all works together- buses and trams and u-bahn and s-bahn routes all link together to make Berlin the easiest city to get round we've ever been to. Add in a day travel card for under £4 and bob is your proverbial uncle.
train ticket buy a day pass on the tube station and you can use both underground and surface trains aswell as buses and trams all from one ticket but make sure you buy a ticket of some sort because the train security guards travel around in plain clothes so be warned
Public Transport U-Bahms and S-Balms may sound difficult but everything runs via numbers so different trains may run along the same track the numbers on the map tell you where they come and go to. Get off one train and get on another. There is a tourist information at the airport who will guide you. You must purchase your tickets before going on the trains and get them punched on the platform by the machine. Tickets can be 2 hours or more.
