great location

A cute little hotel with a beautiful view. Nice clean rooms. Staff ok but not as friendly as others we encountered on our travels. Didn't get wake up call we asked for-but fortunately we were up with out it. Would stay here again for the location.
Eight Wonderful Nights at the Hotel Welcome
from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I just returned from spending eight nights at the Hotel Welcome in Villefranche sur Mer on the Cote D'Azur of France. It was a perfect base for exploring the coast and returning at night for an aperitif in the cozy lounge, followed by a wonderful meal in one of the many excellent restaurants situated within walking distance of the hotel. The charming Hotel Welcome is situated on the harbor of a beautiful village, and its small size and waterfront location were perfect for our needs. The atmosphere was low key and friendly; the hotel was well kept and staffed with an unobtrusive, accomodating staff fluent in English. Free internet access was a plus for keeping in touch with family in the States. Our deluxe room was clean and pretty, but tiny by American standards - what it did have was plenty of closet space, a comfortable bed and a balcony overlooking the harbor. Each day we traveled the coast, from Cannes to Monaco, stopping at ancient Roman ruins, medieval villages like Rockbrune, and jet set resorts as enchanting as Cap D'Antibes, then returning happily to our nighttime base at the Hotel Welcome and the village of Villefranche sur Mer.
So good, we went back!

What a wonderful place, right on the waterfront in Villefrance where you can watch the fishermen lands their daily catch and sell it on the quayside. We stayed for the first two nights and were so captivated we returned a week later. Cosy bar in the Hotel and lots of restaurents nearby, try the Obscura - up the lane by the side of the hotel and turn right into a valuted alley - wonderful food cooked in full view! Also try Michels - just beside the hotel. Would definitely recommend this hotel, lots of character and reasonably priced for the Cote D'Azur
Best Kept Secret on the Riviera
from A TripAdvisor Member
What a delightful surprise! The Hotel Welcome is the type of place you can't believe still exists on the French Riviera...the staff is kind and warm, the rooms are charming and cozy with beautiful views overlooking a small, sparkling harbor, and the place is within walking distance from the Villefranche train station and beach. In fact, the Hotel Welcome is so utterly wonderful that my husband and I plan to return there every time we go back to the south of France. When we first walked into the hotel to check in, the manager Laure greeted us by saying, "Welcome and happy anniversary to you." She had remembered that when I made the reservation via email months earlier, I had mentioned it was a trip planned for our wedding anniversary. We were floored that she would remember. One of the best parts of the Hotel Welcome is waking up in the morning and watching the grizzled, old French fishermen mending their nets on the harbor quay directly in front of the hotel. It truly is the best kept secret in the south of France.
Best location!

I've just returned from my trip to Villefranche-sur-Mer. We stayed at the Hotel Welcome for 5 nights. We had a breakfast every morning at the terrace watching the magnificent view of harbor. The room was simple but nice and cozy. The staffs at the Hotel were friendly and helpful. The hotel located at the walking distance from various restaurants and cafes including the famous restaurant, " La Mer Germaine".
I defenitely go gack to the hotel again!

A wonderful place to go to relax.
Do sit in the bar and sink a bottle (or two!) of Sancerre and order breakfast to eat on your terrace whilst overlooking the bay - 2 things I will never forget.
A delightful little hotel in a charming town - just don't tell everybody!!

Villefrance-sur-Mer is a gem of resort, its pastel fronted buildings bask in a beautiful
Cote d'Azur calm. As you make the winding approach to the town, the resplendent Hotel Welcome is the jewel at center of this picture. Life and the life and works of the wonderful Jean Cocteau permeates the very air as the Hotel became his regular retreat. Its calm opulence is apparent as you enter the reception. But it’s the early morning, when the sun first breaks through the shutters and the late of the evening when a night-cap in the street level bar when the hotel really sparkles. Any bedroom facing the bay will afford breathtaking views and a constant hubbub of entertainment of a little town’s activities.
The hotel is small, intimate and relaxed, the bedrooms are the same, however it’s really the position, its history and views that you are paying for –and well worth every Euro. Parking is free at the Citadel, but it means a bit of a walk. I visited the hotel (Room 55) in 2003 for a breath of fresh air and to reflect during one of those times when life seems so finite and unforgiving –I was not disappointed, I would recommend the hotel for a glimpse of timelessness and dazzling colour that you will carry with you always.

Our family of 7 spent 3 nights at Hotel Welcome in early August. Everyone loved it! Great location, nice people, and a very pleasant wine bar. We had 3 rooms overlooking the sea and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Can't wait to return one day!
Nice spot
from demo
Nice hotel overall we had booked in March and req.a 5 th floor corner room got a 4 th floor middle smaller room, we had been assured we would get this room as friends of ours stayed in it and were told were we re getting in June? - it is noisy at night as rooms have A/C but mine was very marginal even when left running all day and window curtains closed- the street in front is noisy and a fair amt of scooter and street noise so beware or have A/C working. The mini- bar was not cooling either as I repaired my self and got some cooling to it- no ice machine in this hotel either so I had to buy ice each nifgt from bartender after 6 pm . Brit at font desk is very dry- best restauarnts are not on waterfront - around the citadel Le Trinquette.
Loved the Hotel Welcome
from A TripAdvisor Member
We loved the Hotel Welcome. the view of the harbor from our second floor balcony was superb. The room was small but comfortable, clean, and well-appointed. The location was convenient to the train station, the center city, and the beach. The prices for everything in Villefranche were great, especially compared to Nice. While the beach is not as large it is every bit as beautiful. The local boules game at the opposite end of the beach is worth a stroll.
Top Local Tips for Villefranche Sur Mer
Transport Hire a taxi to and from the hotel when travelling from Nice.
nice st augustin station took the train from nice airport, after getting down at arenas after terminal 1 on free shuttle.station was quite close, and the train took us to villefranche.
Taxi rip offs Keep away from the taxis - they are expensive and are known to be rip offs. Use the buses and trains and good old fashioned walking - take good flat shoes - it was a laugh watching the young ladies tottering around in high heels!
