Hotel Darse After checking out of Hotel Patricia, we checked into Hotel Darse for 2 nights. They were great!!! Free Parking right in front of the hotel, and so close to all the restaurants. Book ahead and request room with a balcony. Whether travelling alone or with friends, family, you will truly enjoy it. It is so close to the beaches, the rooms overlook the harbor. Also, the hotel is in a great location. Small town feel and located in between Nice (super-touristy) and Monaco (super-expensive).

Trains, Buses, Rental Cars and Taxis Unless you are going inland, you don't need a rental car. The trains and buses are easy to use and cheap. If you need to get to/from the airport in Nice from Villefranche during times when public transportation isn't running (approximately midnight to 6am), a taxi will cost you about 50 Euros.

The accessible exotic Haunt of millionaires, Villefranche offers a mix of old and new on a reasonable budget. This must be one of the most beautiful spots in the Mediterranean and if you shop around, avoiding the tourist cash-cow establishments, you can enjoy most of what the Russian oligarchs (who are buying the place up as fast as they can) enjoy, at a tiny fraction of the cost. Find a cheaper hotel, do back-street dining, then enjoy medieval architecture, sparkling night-time water in the bay, swimming in warm regularly-cleaned sea, fabulous views, access to Nice and Italy; what more do you want one and a half hours from Gatwick?
