Our cancelled flight from Nantes directed my partner, myself and daughter to Tours where luckily after viewing many other hotels we found the immaculate Mirabeau, clean sheets,warmth, comfort and an amzingly gracious host who saved us from torrentail rain and nightmare of a general transport strike at a more than reasonable price. Lovely informal dining room and great breakfast with other international happy travellers. Well placed to visit beautiful Tours. Such a shame we could not stay longer and look forward to a revisit and the planned revamp of this lovely hotel.

Top Local Tips for Tours

Visiting the Castles Chambord is a great castle and you definitely need one whole day to appreciate it. Amboise castle, the town of Amboise, and Leonardo Da Vinci's home and garden are excellent; you probably need two days to appreciate the whole experience. Another castle built on the river is definitely worth a visit. Others are less impressive, and you might want to take off from your iterinaries if you are on a tight schedule. There are tours vans (about eight people in one van) that will take you to those locations. You can book them from the Tours office, or inside the train station, which is cheaper by a few Euros. However, I find joining the tours have a very tight schedule to appreciate the beauty of the castles, for there are so many to appreciate and see. Amboise and Chambord are accessible by train. In Tours itself, there are a lot to see. You need at least two days to see the cathedral, museum, old city, St.Martin church, and the old houses.
