We stayed at Hotel Du Manoir based on Marilyn's review above-- she's completely right. Hotel du Manoir is a great hotel in Tours and is a steal at the price. I second the in hotel breakfast-- it was great each morning, and definitely beat what we tried to scrape up the first morning on Rue Colbert. Lots of variety every day. Hotel Du Manoir is close to the train station, which made it really easy to take day trips to Chenenceaux and Amboise-- it's not particularly near Old town, but after seeing the crowds there, we prefered to stay in the nicer, quieter side of town.

Delightful service, impeccable rooms, excellent breakfast

During the last three years, my husband and I have spent four months in France and three weeks of that time, on three different trips, has been spent at Hotel du Manoir. We come back because the wife and husband team who run this hotel are first-rate hoteliers - Madame runs the reception and ensures that her staff keeps the rooms spotlessly clean and Monsieur keeps us all happy at breakfast - his "chocolat chaud" is the best and there is always a nice surprise, such as cake or fresh fruit salad, in addition to the croissants, bread, cheese and meat, fruit, etc. I have recommended this hotel to several friends and we all agree - there is no better value for money - not in Tours, and maybe not in France! Simone, the owner, speaks English (it gets better each time we meet) and we happily discuss restaurant finds (we were restaurateurs) and compare notes. This hotel is also very central and within walking distance from the train station, the Tourist Information centre, to the best sites, museums, churches, Les Halles (the daily covered market) and most good restaurants. Definitely a three star (or better) experience for a two star price.
