Top Local Tips for Strasbourg

Boat tour The boat tour (which goes around the old town in Strasbourg) is great. Has audio headsets for narration in several different languages. However, don't take the last trip of the day, as once it becomes dark hardly anything is visible.

A great walking city! Strasbourg is one of the great cities for walking about & soaking up the ambience. It is very compact so most of the main tourist attractions are close together. One great tip is to go to the main tourist office right on Cathedral Square & buy a Strasbourg Pass which is the bargain of the century & gives you some great deals including some free things to be used over a 3-day period. One of the free things was a 70 minute boat cruise on the River L'ill which really gave a different perspective on Strasbourg and you could book a time day or evening. We enjoyed the Musee d'Art Moderne et Contemporain and there is a cafe there with a great view of the river and old Strasbourg. The Palais Rohan has 3 interesting museums and the other museum we really liked was the Strasbourg Historical Museum which had an excellent English audioguide free with admission.

Take the On arrival, it can appear bizarre that the airport bus leaves you in an anonymous suburb, but the ticket includes a tram ride right into the city centre. You need to catch an "A" tram, and it helps to know where you want to get off (the city maps show all the tram stops). The system is superb; modern, frequent and cover everywhere you want to be. Much of the old city is pedestrianised, so leave your car behind.
