What a little treasure this place is, if I could score it higher I would. We have been to France many times and used Logis de France hotels each time and have only been disapointed a couple of times, but this place, well how do you describe near perfection, I'll try. We had planned a touring holiday in our Morgan sports car travelling in an anti clockwise route around Paris and looking for a Logis in the Morvan area, a region we had never been to, we looked the website for Le Morvan and were very impressed by the site, the information and especially the menus. When we arived in Quarre Les Tombes, a beautiful sleepy little village in the late afternoon sunshine we were greeted by the shy but friendly patron Ettiene Robbe already in his chefs white's. He guided us to our very well appointed room( it even had tea making facilities) and enquired at what time we would like to eat, 8pm, no probelm was the reply. As we had travelled a fair way that day we had already decided to go for the 22 euro menu, feeling that we could not do justice to the more expensive menu or the Carte. As the evening was warm and sunny we sat in the garden surrounded by roses in full bloom drinking a before dinner pastis eating freshy cooked mouthwatering hot appitizers. All the staff are friendly and aim to please. We both ordered the rabbit terrine as a starter, I decided on the pork medallions and Phil chose the fish of the day as a main course and to follow I chose the creme brulee and Phil chose cheese. Gordon Ramsey could not produce better food, each dish was a lovingly prepared delicious work of art, the attention to detail, everything, I was so impressed I even took photos of the food before we devoured it! The wine list is extension and reasonably priced. The dining room is just a beautiful as it looked on the web site and the clasical music playing was at the perfect level to allow conversation while eating, even the initialled tabelcloths show how much care has been taken with the decoration, including the beautiful grandfather clock standing in the corner and the original paintings by local artists.
The next day breakfast was again another goumet experience, freshly squeezed orange juice, freshly baked croissants, pain au chocolate, french french bread, slightly toasted, slices of a sweet bread and wedges of breakfast cake, a speciality of the house, and mini pots of honey and jam( there is a patisserie in the village which makes 120 types of jam and numerous tyes of chocolate on the premises, well worth a visit) and unlimited rich smokey french coffee. After a day exploring the area, an area of woods, water, and history and an amazing scenery, the view from the ramparts of the abbey at Vezelay was well worth the climb. That evening, our final at Le Morvan, we again sat in the garden drinking pastis in the sun while ordering from the 36 euro menu. What to choose?, 5 course, will I be able to eat that much? The answer, Yes! I chose the Foie gras starter, Phil chose the speciality of the house and area a snail tart, we both had the Charolais beef which cut like butter using a hot knife. To follow we had cheese then I had a sweet which was pink grapefruit with honey in on light sweet flakey base, Phil has a pineapple desert both were amazing. The next morning we wanted to get on the road early our next hotel being in Rheims, a long journey, so after breakfast when I went to settle our bill, Monsieur Robbe was already around preparing bills while overseeing preparations in the kitchen for that lunchtime and evening being saturday. The two night we spent at Le Morvan not all the rooms we occupied or the resturant full but at no time were made to feel that we were an inconvenience, being rushed, like in some place in the UK we have eaten at,so that the staff could pack up and leave. We cannot praise the place too much and we wish Monsieur Robbe and his team every success. Maybe I've said too much about this place and the next time we want to stay there it will be fully booked and should have kept the place secret, try it you will not be disapointed I promise you.

The welcome was very cordial, the room was very comfortable, with a marvellous view, the bathroom was spacious and had everything one could want. The lounge was very comfortable and enjoyable, the dining room was wonderfully well-apportioned, the food and wine were out of this world wonderful, and the service was impeccable for a country inn. It deserves at least three stars.
