Top Local Tips for Paris
Taxi's Only take the real taxi's from the airport. Make sure it's got a taxi sign and it looks like a real taxi. Don't get suckered by the guys that come up and ask if you need a ride. They will charge you $100 or more to get into Paris from Charles De Gaulle. A real taxi will only cost $30-$40.

Turn in your rental car! We had rented a car for a week, and would have paid only a little more if we had rented as I first planned: pick it up in Bordeaux, keep it for one/two days, turn it in when we reached Paris for a three-day stay, then pick it back up for 3 more days as we toured Normandy. However, it would have been MUCH cheaper for us to do just that, or maybe just park it at one of AutoEurope's parking lots during our time in Paris. Parking costs in the local underground garage were CRAZY, so you must make SURE your hotel really DOES HAVE free on-site parking. Our's said it did, but that was simply not true, not what I would call it. Street parking is only free from 9pm to 9am, and it is really difficult to find. Better to have no car and pay a little for buses, Metro, or cabs than endure what we had to deal with in finding parking in Paris. Lots of one-way streets, and absolutely dreadful street signs make getting around, seeking a parking place, too much of a head-ache.
