Great location for sight seeing

I stayed at the hotel for three nights. The rooms are clean, beds comfortable. Staff very friendly. Breakfast was good. Location is great very near the Notre Dame and Pompidou Centre. Very central and easy to get to. Good value for money, you get what you pay for!

Nervous about the stay having read the other comments but while the hotel bedrooms are very small and a little tired I felt that the location made up for the negatives. Having lived in America for 4 years I can relate to the comments from the USA visitors but remember European hotel rooms are generally half the size and double the price that you would pay in the US. Big plus for us was that you can catch the RER train straight from the airport to Chalet les Halles which was a 5min walk from the hotel and also catch the metro from the same place to anywhere in Paris. The Louvre is also 5mins walk away. Breakfast while basic by American standards was traditional french style and wholesome - ham, cheese, croissant, boiled eggs etc. I'm sure there are nicer hotels but for the money and the fact we weren't in the room much it suited us and our budget. Receptionist was not full of smiles but was very helpful when we returned from the boulangerie around the corner ( right out of door and right again - Julien's) with a chocolate cake to take home, she placed it in the hotel fridge to keep cool.

The rooms left alot to be desired but for this price in this location in Paris you couldn't complain. They were clean and comfortable with all amenities. The hairdryers were a nightmare though and there aren't any spare ones available at the hotel so if you need one, then pack one!
The location was amazing, we could walk everywhere, including to a lovely bistro round the corner: come out of the hotel, turn right, first left and it's down there on the right hand side. Looks like a bar from the outside but the restaurant bit is at the back, and has the most amazing food and very friendly staff. In all, after trying many hotels in Paris I'd probably return especially for a shortbreak.

Top Local Tips for Paris

Don't miss a gem Make sure you nip down the road to St Eustacie. It gets a passing mention in most guide books but it is a dark, fascinating Gothic treasure of a church. Unlike the over-gilted and flashy major attractions it has not been renovated so you get a real feel for the history and the time.Sit outside in the sun for a while and watch the french strolling, chatting and relaxing, and the kids playing round the head and hand statue.

Bus tour and Versailles If you are new to Paris, I recommend going on the open-air bus tour. You will be able to buy tickets on the bus for Versailles, which will avoid you queueing for tickets once you get there, and includes transport from the centre of Paris to Versailles. Make sure you go to the toilet before getting to Versailles, as the queue for the ladies' can be up to 45 mins during the busy tourist season!

The Metro Get a Carnet of 10 tickets from a newsagent. This will enable you to get about the city quickly, eaily and cheaply.
