I had, an overall, pleasant experience during my stay at Sully St Germain Hotel in Paris, May of 2003. The reception desk was most helpful and pleasant, and they were quite helpful in arranging for special tours. The hotel common amenities were very attractive, including a very appetizing free breakfast and a very helpful Internet access for a fee at the lobby. The hotel is located in one area of Paris that gives you a neighborhood feeling and is very conveniently located to restaurants, other conveniences, including the Metro, and walking distance to major attractions, including Isle de la Cite and Notre Dame. The room itself was surprisingly small, although I am told that is generally the case throughout Europe, except in the most upscale hotels.

Sully St. Germain was a very nice hotel, but the staff was sort of pretentious. They have a spa at an extra cost and breakfast was not included in our fare. It was a whopping 9 pounds which was almost $18 for breakfast! We walked down the street to a wonderful bakery instead. Room was nice and the price was right!

Good Paris hotel with disappointing showers

We stayed in a double room here for one night for ~100EUR in September 2004. Room was not large but for Paris quite sizeable given the price. It was on the fifth floor, overlooking the central courtyard. Consequently it was extremely quiet, which combined with the comfortable bed, provided a good nights sleep. Bathroom was a reasonable size and had a bath / shower .. but the shower head had to be held by hand and there was no shower curtain; consequently showers had to be taken sitting down! This was the only disappointment in an otherwise good establishment. Those with a lot of luggage may struggle however as the lifts are *extremely* small -- two person on the left wing and three on the right wing.

We stayed here for our honeymoon. Excellent location in the Latin Quarter, just a couple of blocks from St. Germain, which is filled with cafes. Very short walk to the Pantheon and close to the Seine River and Notre Dame. The hotel was very clean and the staff were very friendly. Breakfast was extremely enjoyable.

One negative was that the elevator was not working for the first couple days of our stay, and it had apparently fallen with people inside a few days earlier.

We just returned from Paris where we stayed at the Sully Saint Germain. The hotel is very close to Norte Dame in the Latin Quarter. The rooms were very clean and the staff very pleasant and helpful. We had booked a family room for 4 but when arrived learned it was not available. They explained the problem and offered us 2 regular rooms across from each other for the same rate as the one larger room. Both rooms we had were larger and nicer than I expected from one of the other reviews I read here. They were doing some repairs and maintainence in the courtyard. Overall, everything was clean, very nice, and pleasant.

A wonderful hotel I highly recommend! The location is ideal: in the heart of the Latin Quarter, near a metro stop, and not far from Notre Dame or the Pantheon. We were pleased that the rooms were larger than expected and well maintained. Comfy beds and the balconies were a nice touch. Breakfasts were tastey and it was nice to have a common area with a bar in which to relax. The front desk staff (especially Reza, overnights) is very friendly and helpful, accommodating several languages. I'll definitely stay there again my next trip to Paris!

Not Quite What We Expected

We chose the Sully Saint Germain for a three night stay in July 2004 based on the reviews on Trip Advisor, and because it advertised an elevator and air conditioning. Unexpectedly, our superior category room (room #4) was one of a few at the back reached by a spiral staircase with no elevator service, so after a day of sight-seeing we were always climbing another two flights of stairs to get there. The room itself was not overly large, and furnished only with a desk and desk chair in addition to the twin beds, so our suitcases were opened on the floor. The only window faced into an interior courtyard that had a lot of scaffolding for construction work, so the room did not get much light and seemed very dark all the time. On the plus side, the staff were very helpful (in English), the room and facilities were clean and very quiet, the lobby was comfortable, the breakfast buffet was very good, and the location is excellent. So while we did not have a bad experience at the Sully, it was not as good as I expected based on the other reviews. Next time I would insist on a different room served by the elevator, or more likely try another hotel on the same street.

Good hotel for a traveling family!

Great location in the Latin Quarter, one block from Metro and five short blocks from Notre Dame. Many excellent places to eat in vicinity (especially towards St Michel). We do not speak French but that was not a problem with the staff; they were very pleasant & helpful. Our two rooms were small, clean with no-frills (no surprise) but bathrooms were large (nice surprise). Half of the hotel was undergoing renovations while we were there during late June 2004. Breakfast was traditional continental fare - good strong French coffee and delicious bread and pastries. We were traveling with our children (3 teenagers) and the hotel was just right for us!

Stayed at this hotel in the middle of May. Upon arriving at the closest Metro station to the hotel, we were welcomed with a sidewalk market of fruits and veggies. What a great selection of fresh fruits!

Service was good; reception offered helpful information such as getting an early start to the train station as there was a strike.

Room 1 was large for 3 adults and a 2 year old. Very clean! Fridge in the room for drinks. Bathroom was large even by American standards. Negatives: (1) terrible window view of the ugly "courtyard"; (2) TV small and reception fuzzy, but who stays in a Paris hotel???

Breakfast at the hotel was traditional petit dejeuner. Delicious bread.

Location can't be beaten! Metro is 1 block away. The Seine is 2 blocks away. Great restaurants, even ones that offer take-out for those days when your child just doesn't want to sit still in a restaurant! (This certainly saved us from heartache.) Wonderful markets for groceries. During the mornings there are sidewalk vendors selling fruits & veggies. Check out the Vietnamese restaurant one block away; deeee-lish food!

To paraphrase our govenor's movie line, "We'll be back!"

Great hotel in super location

We stayed at this hotel last week and thought it was GREAT! I highly reccomend it.

Upon arrival we were greeted by the most pleasant man at the desk who recognizing that we (obviously) didn't speak much French addressed us in English. In general the entire staff was very friendly. The common areas are comfy and very well kept.

The room was larger than we expeced and we had a nice large window.
And, it was spotless when we returned each night from busy Paris days.

We fell in love with Paris on this trip and hop to return. We will definatley stay at the Sully Saint Germain again.

I stayed in September 2003 and found the Sully to be the most splendidly delightful hotel EVER! Every one is so friendly and helpful!
The rooms were so cute and charming and the beds soooo comfy! We stayed in a room with two sleigh beds and a huge roman tub it was the great.
Parisians that asked where we were staying were so impressed and curious as to how we knew it was such a great hotel. Our first night in Paris after a long day we partied with the concierge and other people staying there. The breakfast is great and the only thing negative that I can say about the Sully St Germaine is that we had to leave to go to London. So after staying at the sully the hotels in London were a huge disappointment. =) Stay at the Sully you'll love it!

Slight Hickup

Made reservation on web direct with hotel. Given reassurances of room ammenities booking superior room with double bed. On arrival concierge stated that there had been a mistake and that we could only have a standard room and at the same price. The room was no bigger than the average bathroom with what could only be described as a walk in cupboard to house the bath and toilet. The room also had two single beds. Upon complaining to the concierge and then the manager we were rudely told that it was not their problem and that there were no superior rooms available anyway. After at least an hour of standing in reception fighting our corner we were then thrown the key to the room that didn't exist. The result being that the concierge and manager need to work on their people skills somewhat. The superior room we were then given was approx 40ft by 11ft in size. Excellent stay after the initial hick ups the rest of the staff were fine. The hotel was clean the breakfast although basic was good. The location was great only 5 mins walk to metro and nightlife. Bear in mind the majority of rooms are small. Don't pay extra to get a larger room and expect to get it, make sure you keep all your paperwork if you do.

Top Local Tips for Paris

Quai 21 and Pescatore Great restaurants with great prices! Quai 21 is right on the Seine next to Notre Dame but has reasonable prices and the best Confit du Canard I had on my trip. The chocolate cake was also to die for! It is a funky little place filled with Parisians (not tourists!). Pescatore was a little Italian place a block from Sully St. Germain. This was also a great (though larger) restaurant. I highly recommend having the coconut/chocolate ice cream sundae for dessert. Best ice cream I had in Paris! Both places had very friendly hosts and waiters that were very patient as I attempted to communicate only in French. I highly recommend both spots for dinner.

Try the 18th The 18th arrondissment is the Greenwich Village of Paris. More upscale accomodations for a better price in a wonderful ambiance. At the butte of Monmartre, close to two Metro lines, you get more for your money, here.

Get a museum pass at the airport We purchased a 4 day museum pass at the airport and were very glad we did. We save money and didn't have to deal with lines. Getting it at the airport helps too because u can set off right away and not bother with finding the right kiosk/counter at a museum/station that sells it.
