Historical Traveller Reviews of Starhotels Castille Paris Hotel

Fantastic location

from Chimp123
Booked this hotel as part of a Eurostar package. Great find and very central location. Close to 4 Metro stops: Madeleine, Concorde, Tuileries, Opera. Staff at the front desk were very polite and helpful. Room was spotless and very comfortable. Breakfast was a nice surprise with both hot and cold options. Highly recommended hotel especially for business travellers. For those looking for a quick late-night snack, head towards Opera - there is a delicious Japanese place opposite Cafe de la Paix.

Centrally located and Nice Duplex room for families

from SDJCruiser
We stayed at the Castille in July for 3 nights. We decided to stay there because they had a 2-floor duplex room that would sleep our family of 4, rather than booking 2 hotel rooms at a higher cost per night. While the room was quite small, there were 2 bathrooms in the duplex which were both large, and overall the room was decorated in a beautiful french decor. Our only problem was that the downstairs sofa bed was broken, and had to stay unfolded out in the middle of the room as a bed, unless we flipped it up onto the back of the sofa which made the sofa useless. It was a quiet hotel, other than the taxis that blocked the one way, one lane street out front that caused others to blow their horns occasionally. Elevators were slow and small. The food was okay, however the staff in the breakfast room weren't very helpful, and most every meal we ate there (4 or 5 total, breakfast & dinner) we had to ask for something more than once. A little pricey too, but it's that way all over Paris. All in all, we enjoyed our stay at the Castille for our first time in Paris. It is in a great location close to Metro, shopping, the Louvre, etc.

LOVED the Castille!

from CWhaley
We stayed three nights at this wonderful hotel. It's in a great location -- close to the Metro, the Seine, the Louvre, shops and restaurants. Each and every member of the staff was friendly and helpful and all of our requests were handled promptly and professionally. They are in the process of remodeling the rooms. We had one of the "older" rooms (#314), which I actually preferred over our friends' updated room. (What can I say, I like a charming room where the curtains match the wallpaper versus a sleek, modern look.) The feather beds were the most comfortable during our entire trip and we loved the robes and slippers that were provided. I would definitely stay here again (and hopefully very soon)!

My husband and I had stayed at the Castille (when it was part of the Sofitel chain) in 2003 and were pleased with our experience. This time was different. The breakfast room was understaffed and overwhelmed, so there were long lines every morning and coffee never came in a timely manner. We had a remodeled suite so that it now looks like a W hotel room; Parisian charm is gone. We like A/C but ours kept breaking down; we were later told it was a building-wide problem. Because of the 35-hour work restriction the restaurant is closed on weekends. Upon checkout we were charged for our evening wines although our reservation indicated they were included in the rate. Granted, they made an "exception" and removed this charge. For the money we paid for 5 nights we should have gone back to another old favorite, the Sofitel Le Fauborg.

Great Hotel - would go back

from MollyL
We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights recently. The staff were professional, friendly and helpful.

The restaurant was very good, although could be busy in the mornings for breakfast - we found room service to be the best way round that!

The location is excellent, just a short walk to a lot of sights, restaurants and bars.

You are also given a weather report for the next day to help you plan, which I thought was a nice touch.

Overall, I enjoyed my trip to Paris & would come back to stay at this hotel again.

Lovely Boutique Hotel

from Scottas66
I always appreciate hotel staff that take a few extra moments to point out the features of their propery when I check in. It really shows pride in the services one offers. I felt very apprised of the services offered during my stay.

The hotel staff were friendly and genuine.

The best feature of the rooms would be the bathroom with marble fittings. It was certainly lovely. However they don't provide conditioner, so if you are accustomed to using it, bring your own.

There are a fine selection of reading materials and other extras in the room, and room service is efficient, although the food is rather forgettable.

Beds made up every time we came back to our room

from EastofHampstead
The hotel is conveninetly located a brisk walk from the Louvre and the Champs Elysee. The staff were very professional, polite and helpful.

We stayed here for our honeymoon and you could tell you were staying in a classy hotel in a classy area. None of the surrounding shops had prices in the windows (If you have to ask......) The rooms were cleaned not once but several times during the day. Every time we came back from our jaunts round Paris, the beds had been made-up with fresh linen. The breakfast was of a high standard although very popular with other guests and on one occasion we had to wait to be seated.

One word of caution though if you are travelling on budget, avoid the minibar it is extremely pricey better to buy drinks from the local minimarket on the Rue Sainte Honore. Also you will probably find the restaurant is out of your league. Not to worry check out the excellent Le Mesturet restaurant:

We recommend the mutton stew and Compote of apple and rhubarbe, violet ice cream and Johanna biscuits. We liked it so much went twice!

would stay here again and again and again

from elfintraveller
I have just returned from four days at the Castille which we had booked as part of a Eurostar deal. It was amazing value and superb location being so close to everything and yet a little quieter being off the main drag. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the breakfast waiters worked tirelessly to cater for our needs. Breakfast is self service buffet style ( lots of it) and served from 7 to 10 ( 10.30 weekends) which covered our late morning lie ins and also our need to catch the train back early on Monday morning.
The sheets were changed every day and the room cleaned well, although the staff were a little over zealous about throwing our plastic water bottles away that we were going to reuse. Lollies at bed time and the next days weather forecast. I was able to go on line every day and check emails/print stuff off etc etc.

This was such an amazing little find I would stay here everytime by choice.

Fabulous visit

from darkmargaret
I've just returned from a three day stay at this beautiful hotel. It was everything one could wish for in a Parisian hotel and then some!

First this is the great location. Rue Cambon is within a few short blocks of all of the following: Place Vendome, Place de la Concorde, the Madeleine, the Tuileries and within easy walking distance of the Louvre, in an area that is home to couture houses and exclusive designer shops. It is a quiet street at night, so even if you get a room overooking the street as I did, sleep is no problem.

Second, there is the room itself. It was huge and had every amenity I could want. The bathroom was also immense and featured both a bath and shower stall and two sinks, so would be ideal for two (I was by myself). It was sparkling clean in every detail and featured thick terry bathrobes and plenty of towels.

Third, all the staff were friendly and helpful to a man and woman, from the porters to the reception staff to the dining room staff to the concierge. I will not only try to arrange to stay there in future, but am also recommending it to all my friends.

Great location

from RBH72
I stayed here for 3 nights on business, with my wife accompaying me. The location of the hotel is great, you can walk or take a short taxi ride to most of the business and shopping districts. The initial room they gave us was small, but most importantly did not have an internet connection, which was an absolute must for me being there on business. I was told that the web connection had been out for a week and that they were trying to get the company responsble to come and fix it. After the first night, I asked the manager to total up my bill as we would be moving to another hotel as I could not work without a web connection. The manager, to his good credit, immediately moved us to one of their best suites which had access to a wireless connection (which I had to pay for). The room was much bigger, had a separate seating area and a proper work desk. In addition, my wife was much more comfortable. The things the hotel can improve on are attention to detail, especially to room service and the housekeeping - for example room service forgot to bring us cutlery and housekeeping once forgot to replace soap and shampoo when it had finished. The breakfast buffet was great, their room service food was to a high standard.

Top Local Tips for Paris

Restaurant Carre des Feuuillants We had an amazing, albeit expensive meal in Carre des Feuillants restaurant, which was only 5 minutes walk from the hotel. V. french, V. friendly staff

river boat river shuttle to all main tourist sites not as busy as open top buses and cheaper all day ticket .

CDG Airport Charles DeGaulle is a good 1/2 hour outside of the city... in traffic it takes an hour!
